My two main issues with Gachapon is object permissions and build quality. This has been addressed somewhat where the "token" is used to aquire a copy/?/nt version, but overall I would like to see them being copy/mod. Then there is the build quality; creators pump and dump these things on the same level as stuff sold at shopping events. Usually high triangle counts, bad LoDs, and the inability to use anything but 1024px textures despite having texture resizing tools as part of any 3d modeling suite. Gachapons take the worst of no mod culture and amplify it.
Nothing preventing creators from exchanging a no-copy item with a mod/copy item. I've been doing it since my very first participation at The Arcade back in 2013, just sayin'. I still make good money on every one of such releases, along with my regular releases too.
This thread keeps getting dragged up from the dead, and frankly? Ho hum. Are gachas going to go away? No. Don't like them? Move on and support creators who do more than just chase event money. Develop friendly conversations with creators, who are really just people behind their keyboards too. Make it more profitable for creators to pay attention to what their customers want and to offer it on-demand rather than random play.
And as far as gacha items being worse than general release with regard to viewer performance? In my experience, there is no difference. The vast majority of creators simply do not care.
