I was trying "Big furry elephant" (Chinese for Mastodon) and getting furless elephants so I went "fuck it" and asked for "Big furry elephant dingo" and now I can't even:

There aren't enough lolwut pears for this. It's like a cross between Roger Dean and Salvador Dali.

Ugh. Looks like the elephant dingo ate its own self.

Get ready for the next phase in fake imagery.

An explosion from the side of an old brick building. A crashed bicycle in a city intersection. A cockroach in a box of takeout. It took less than 10 seconds to create each of these images with the Reimagine tool in the Pixel 9’s Magic Editor. They are crisp. They are in full color. They are high-fidelity. There is no suspicious background blur, no tell-tale sixth finger. These photographs are extraordinarily convincing, and they are all extremely fucking fake.

Anyone who buys a Pixel 9 — the latest model of Google’s flagship phone, available starting this week — will have access to the easiest, breeziest user interface for top-tier lies, built right into their mobile device. This is all but certain to become the norm, with similar features already available on competing devices and rolling out on others in the near future. When a smartphone “just works,” it’s usually a good thing; here, it’s the entire problem in the first place.

This makes me sad, since it is almost useless. It will protect us against amateurs who can't get around it. However, those professionals who will find AI fakes most useful will bypass all safeguards: Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and ultimately, our own government agencies whose professional responsiblities include sowing chaos in other countries.

There's a new player with Black Forest Labs in town (backed by Elon Musk) and their new model Flux is all the rage right now. Flux really delivers very realistic images, adheres quite strictly to the prompts and is able to generate text into the images as well! On top of it since it's backed by Elon it's largely uncensored.

Vladimir is owning Donnie... as you can see Flux has no (big) problems with human hands done right.

The Beatles are bigger than cheeses. Flux.

The fool on the hill sees the cheese go by.

He's supposed to be a young John Lennon but maybe he looks more like Harry Potter. Or maybe Timothy Hunter. I guess it just generated a random young Brit.

Also wondering about the fifth Beatle in the first picture.

AI treats Beatles like they do fingers: too many.
I wonder if there is some analysis behind the tendency of AI to lose track of numbers at different levels. I think it knows what 2 eyes look like consistently because the source data always shows people with 2 eyes more or less.... it but it is clear generative AI's can't actually count and mess up with bigger numbers. It knows you have 2 hands MOST of the time but can't count to 5 fingers. It also makes sense why it struggles to know there should be four Beetles when it is asked to draw them.

I remember ChatGPT used to be easily tricked with verbal math problems since it is really a word bot that didn't intuitively know math. Newer versions are smarter about actually recognizing math problems and at least doing simple math though.

I kind of suspect that a true generalized Intelligence won't be something we just program and train on tons of data.... it will require a legion of special cases programmed over a long, long long time...
