I honestly don’t remember at all how i joined Discord, but I do remember it was relatively easy. I DO remember finding it a tad confusing at first with the different servers and such, but it’s been too long.


A. “I already have Discord”
→ Click our invitation link → log in if necessary → accept invitation → you’re in.

B. “I don’t have Discord yet”
→ Create an account → verify email if asked → come back to the invitation link → accept invitation.

C. “I used Discord before but can’t get in”
→ Don’t create a new account yet!
→ Try the email addresses you may have used.
→ If you know the email, use Forgot your password?
→ Check spam/junk and search the mailbox for “Discord.”
→ If they still don’t receive anything, there are additional things to check.


Discord accounts can also be logged into using a phone number if that number is attached to the account. Discord’s current support documentation confirms this.

Also, if someone is already logged into Discord on another device or browser, Discord recommends looking in User Settings → My Account to see which email address is actually attached to their account. That could solve a surprising number of these cases.


The invite link shown here on VVO is old, maybe that’s the problem(?) Here’s a new one that will expire in 30 days, but might work better. If you are able to be signed in to Discord, after signing in, use the invite.

Also, I think at times, people are confused about servers. As you can see in my image, I only have my own and the VVO one, but some people have a whole bunch. At the bottom is my Izabeau account avatar which I can click to see, well, my account. Sometimes people click this and that and leave the VVO server and are confused, then they click on their own server and wonder where the hell is everyone….

or maybe that’s not it at all, I’m just giving examples.

At the moment, I think that many are having difficulties simply retrieving an old account (creating a new one for the first time?)

I managed to get there again.
Still don't like what I see. I will not become a regular there as I see it now.
The concept is not what I find help full. More like group chat inworld. If you were not online when it happened, than bad luck for you.

This statement perfectly sums up why I will really miss having a good, traditional message board like this. Missing a group chat even by a day, makes it awkward to try to jump in!

I DO like discord, but I love having both as options.

Yeah, both is best. If you’re at work or just busy, it’s fun to just chat about random things. Also, since the Discord group isn’t huge, it’s relatively easy to follow even if 24 hours go by. And you can choose to mute “threads” and just have notifications on for a couple. Like the “Lurkers” one and politics or games, then check out the other ones when you feel like it.

But when you feel like having an actual discussion, with thought out answers, à forum is best.

Honestly, for me, I just don’t have any energy left to get into long convos about Trump or US politics anymore. What is there left to say? Not sure what I could even add to that type of discussion, that I haven’t already said multiple times.

I just like the community, and sharing laughs and info about I don’t know, what I’m watching on the teevee, games, what is going on in everyone’s life at the moment. So either Discord or à forum is good with that. When something big is happening (like a war or, say, the death of a politician) à forum is probably best.

Somehow I got in without my password (which I don't remember but couldn't reset either). Once I found the UI settings

I managed to get there again.

In the context of what is happening now, the point of Discord is to have a central distribution point for contacting everyone on where we're going next. We can't populate a new forum if no one is talking to each other.

I’ve given up going back and fixing it each time. My keyboard is set to both languages and it just inserts accents wherever and whenever it wants. I mean, I’m writing in English, the spell check works great, so why in the world would there be an accent there. It used to frustrate me so much. I don’t care anymore. You all must take me as I am ha ha

I consider it sort of like comfort reading, like I'm a child listening to my mom talk in a normally clear and distinct English voice, but occasionally slipping in binnes or à terre when she was tired.

For people new to or uncomfortable with Discord, a small word of warning.

Don't click fishy links.

Occasionally people get their account jacked by running third party stuff or clicking on something. Then their account starts spamming more hack links around. Sometimes in every channel in a server. Remember your hygiene same as old school hack emails.
