Nothing wrong with that one, if you got a good idea for an iOS app or just want to get into that field.
I would go with Swift over Objective-C at this point. Objective-C is horrible and Swift has quickly replaced it for iOS dev.

I can't speak to web development directly, but do have a bit of advice for learning anything programming related:

It's easy to get lost in the huge range of tools and languages people are throwing out there. Worrying about all of them will give you paralysis by Analysis. Just pick 1 good approach and stick with it for a bit. That will give you transferable skills if you want to switch.

Soen Eber I am an ASP.NET web application developer professionally, and I also do mobile iOS and Android apps (normally with either Cordova or Xamarin). I know HTML, CSS, Javascript and related tech. I'd be happy to help provide some advice if you have any questions. Feel free to message me.

Senior web dev here .... just be aware most of the practical stuff you learn will go bye-bye in a few years and get replaced with something else. Whatever technologies you do learn though will make it that much easier to learn the Next Big Thing.

I was doing mentoring at a hackathon this weekend and that was a popular question with people just getting started: what to learn first. For that question I would suggest php be at the top of the list, if you are looking at data stuff too at least know what R is.

Hmm. I'm not familiar with what you mean by "document manipulation" or why that has anything to do with jQuery as a web design tool.
Modifying the page directly using javascript. I was talking little things. You appear to be using jQuery for a lot more UI stuff.

jQuery's GUI-building has been largely supplanted by other technologies,
I may have been wrong.

I had no idea R was used in web development! I'm a data engineer and use SQL constantly and am familiar with R from a data science perspective, but this is the first I heard of it for web development unless of course the website was specifically self serve BI of some sort.

I've been looking at the Data Analys
Sort of.

Integrating PHP and R

I've really only bumped into it as a "can we do this?" effort. But data is data, so why not if you can make sense out of using it.
I've been exploring the data analyst side as well, but that seems to be more of a 4 year degree thing to make the decent money and opportunities and I suspect this role may face massive changes from automation soon. From what I've read, it seems like Python will eventually overtake R since it has some great statistical & analysis modules on top of it's other advantages (easy to learn, flexibility, popularity meaning easier to staff up, etc).

Actually I took an 'intro to R' course this weekend to find out what it was. Not sure if it has a way to use it from the web but there seemed to be a lot of people I met that wanted to get into both data and web.

I do tend to suffer from that, yes, and thank you.

I seem to be lucking out this time 'round, not only am I getting some great advice, but that road seems to have been traveled enough that even semi-random searching is landing me on exactly what I need - from GitHub's flowpath I linked to earlier, to this 2018 Web Development Practical Guide YouTube vid, to what tools I should be using, such as Atom or Visual Studio Code.

Much of python's value in the data world is specifically because it's gotten so popular. A lot of people have built packages in it just because it's popular.

I HATE it's syntax, but still feel I have to learn it.

I've been using Sublime Text for several years. I have a soft spot for Atom, but if I was starting from scratch today I'd probably look at Visual Studio Code, as it has a lot of momentum right now.

I don't get the appeal of Python, but it is incredibly popular. I keep planning to learn it, but I don't have the time atm and I like to actually use it in a project.

One tech I loathe is PHP - it's terrible. I know it, but I would never use it willingly for a project. There are much better options.

Where I'm working now, all their projects start and end in Laravel. :hellokitty:

The web application development space has definitely changed for the better dramatically in the past few years. If anything, there's almost too much choice, which can make you feel paralyzed a bit about what to use. As far as tools, I would say go with Visual Studio Code, or the OG Visual Studio if you have access to it (there is a free community version), depending on what you will be doing. I'd also recommend WebStorm - it's a great tool that I've used on some of my cordova projects. I loved that it had direct integration to be able to use Adobe's build service to build IOS and Android apps from the code.

I'm in the same boat. Some of my coworkers want to start using it because it's "trendy" but they are having a very rough time coming up with use cases for it that make it look better than what we already do.

I got on idiot coworker who keeps sending me blogs of things people did in python that a child could have done in any other language.

At this point, I feel like the need to learn it is purely political and very demeaning...
