Aside from Second Life, what other virtual worlds are you spending time in? I have recently started exploring sinespace and Sansar, but most of my time is spent in MMOs and open world games.

I wasn't big on it when it first came out, but now I have a group of 8 to 12 ex-SL friends, all with headsets and hands, some with fullbody setups, who hang out exploring in VR every single night.

I would talk about it but I think I talk about VRChat enough. You all have heard me rave.

I am a big fan of VRChat as well. I need to spend some more time there, I've not been back in awhile.

Sinespace mostly. Sometimes I login in VRChat. Even though on paper SL has more people online, VRChat feels generally more active and social. Maybe because there aren't all those places filled with bots or AFK-ish people or just sending private messages - you can't type anyway in VRChat - You are immediately among people that are quite active. However, VRChat it's much less accessible. I still have to try Rec Room, but anything else just feel like wastelands instead, Sansar and HiFi in particular. I'm fascinated by HiFi, though, they have lots of ideas and Rosedale is a visionary, but it's buggy, and when you try it and you read the reviews on Steam, you get an idea why it's a wasteland. Maybe if they improve it, I'll go there more often. Sansar, I touch it less and less. Sinespace may have not many people online, but the global chat is a clever thing, there is a dedicated welcome center to hang out, it's accessible, it runs on all the major operating system and even on web browsers. So, aside from SL, I spend time in Sinespace mostly.

Rec room is fine if you want to play games, but it's designed to be a safe space for kids *AND* adults, and you will run into a lot of kids connecting to you via their Playstation 4's.

(Thankfully there is an option for the matchmaker to try and avoid matching you with children, but it still remains family-friendly, kid-safe game as it's focus)

I just bought a region on The Great Canadian Grid. I'll be putting on my live fireworks shows there, and opening a store.

What made you choose that particular grid?

Several things.
  • They offer low prim regions really cheap (price depends on number of prims), and you can choose have your region use Gloebits or the local currency.
  • Their technology works better than some other grids - they have a functional search and classifieds for example.
  • They have the most beautiful and natural looking welcome area I've seen.
  • The owner, Roddie Macchi, is friendly and helpful (and often comes to events), and in general everyone here seems to have a laid back Canadian attitude.
  • A number of people and stores I know from SL and InWorldz are here.

Open Sim grids vary tremendously in quality. I go to Discovery Grid a lot because I know people there, but it's not as stable. There's one club there that crashes their sim so regularly that they have a backup sim that everyone knows to go to when the main one goes down.

I've got a lovely little spot in Discovery Grid; I love the open water and have high regard for the admins involved. I've also started out in Infiniti grid, which looks promising; I also have high regards for the admins there. Both are HG enabled so I am having fun running around. I do enjoy starting something new, and exploring.

How do these grids compare to the experience in SL?

The main difference is that there are no griefers, and I have yet to see anyone wandering around with a freenis hanging out.

(I think I got griefed twice in - what was it, 8 years? - in Inworldz, and never yet in OpenSim worlds.)

I haven't really spent much time in SL the last eight years (save for a brief meeroo addiction), so I don't know what shinys are there now. I do recall the griefings, ban lines, region crossings, dick neighbors, and expense.

I haven't had griefing issues elsewhere. In the smaller grids, it is easier to know who to go to for help with an issue. I have been able to afford nice parcels and/or region(s) that have given me some space and enough prim to tinker. I love taking my little kayak around and not being bounced around by banlines. I feel comfortable exploring on my own; which is awesome because I am an introvert. I don't mind occasional crashes or avatar glitches. In the newer grids, shopping takes time to become robust but I have been able to supplement using Kitely Market and on the HG.

Of course, you're not limited to shopping on any one grid. Hell, I can even buy things and bring them back to the grid I run at home.

BTW, building on your own home grid can be very productive due to the lack of distractions.

So it's possible that an answer to the OP question is, the biggest one.

At the moment I'm wearing a pair of shoes of in SL. I'm planning to start to explore Kitely for many weeks now, but still haven't started.
I had a toe in Inworldz for a day or two, but I did not like it there.
