Over the last few days I have been getting an ever increasing number of requests to prove that I'm not a robot....

do I sound more mechanical than I used to? can I be easily replaced by a small script? or am I so dangerous I just need to be recaptchaed?
What's going on?

I get a lot of generalised oddness around the forums, like the majority of embedded content does not work for me, as I do radical things like blocking cross site scripting by default and preventing a lot of tracking by social media sites. So I wasn't sure if I'd brought it on myself.

So far I'm only getting the "[x] I am not a robot" version, I'm not being asked to find motorcycles or crosswalks.

Seems to be roughly once per day, per device on average. (3 devices). And, oddly, it's not immediate, it only seems to pop up after I've opened a page and left it idle for a while.

I have opened a ticket on this - it seems to be happening further up the network all of the sudden. I have made no changes. I will post again once I find out more.
THANKS! and yeah... I figured this was something deep in the software and not because you wanted to punk us, haha.

My phone and laptop display [x] not a robot every time I access the site and occasionally in the middle of a random page load after I've been reading. I've seen it once on my phone and office PC, weeks ago, then never again. The host may be using an overly aggressive blacklist. Some of those are even randomly generated then licensed for many quatloos. Providers beware.

I don't super follow cybersecurty news, but I have some sources in my feed that I skim the headlines of. I have seen a few rhings talking about some large botnets becoming active recently, I kind of wonder if something related to that and whatever hosting/cdn this forum uses is triggering the captcha to happen more often.

As long as VVO has been in existence I don't remember ever receiving a captcha here until a month or two ago, so I suspect something else.

Also, just for clarity, I didn't mean that bots were targeting the forum, more that a big bot net may be actively hitting many sites looking for holes, triggering some heightened security on the backend.

Though I have not seen this happening elsewhere.

If what distinguishes a human is the ability to identify pictures of motorcycles, were we human before there were motorcycles?

(I think I know WolfEyes' answer for this ...)
