Speaking of Yes .... at what point, exactly, did Steve Howe start looking like he was auditioning for Miracle Max in a Princess Bride remake? There's no way on earth he could produce anything that awesome...

I wonder if Paul Verhoeven is still surprised by how many people missed the irony and thought it was a great future to live in?There's no way on earth he could produce anything that awesome...

Well yeah.... the movie downplayed a lot of the fascist elements but showed all the cool technology!!!! A lot of depictions of fascist dystopias make similar mistakes.I wonder if Paul Verhoeven is still surprised by how many people missed the irony and thought it was a great future to live in?
Nope, just generally, not aimed at you. You obviously know the film. Are you talking to me?
Ah. Shouting at the Nazi aether.Nope, just generally, not aimed at you. You obviously know the film.
Hahaha! Did I blink and miss the personal battlesuits? The film was just a remake of any WWII film.Well yeah.... the movie downplayed a lot of the fascist elements but showed all the cool technology!!!! A lot of depictions of fascist dystopias make similar mistakes.
Right. From what I understand, the book made it clear this was an oppressive, fascist regime. The movie really didn't.I forgot it was a book first.
Uh, no. If one doesn't get that Earth is ruled by a fascist - or more precisely, militarist - regime in the film, they're either not paying attention, too focused on the good looking stars and cool special effects, or too young when they saw it. Or Verhoeven is just too subtle a director for them (!!!).From what I understand, the book made it clear this was an oppressive, fascist regime. The movie really didn't.
