There's no way on earth he could produce anything that awesome...
Speaking of Yes .... at what point, exactly, did Steve Howe start looking like he was auditioning for Miracle Max in a Princess Bride remake?

I wonder if Paul Verhoeven is still surprised by how many people missed the irony and thought it was a great future to live in?
Well yeah.... the movie downplayed a lot of the fascist elements but showed all the cool technology!!!! A lot of depictions of fascist dystopias make similar mistakes.

That's why people love to cosplay Stormtroopers. The wipe out planets, but they have cool armor.

I felt like Starship troopers kind of functioned as sort of insane warning. You could maybe even almost use it to test if somebody understood and could recognize the signs of a fascist military regime-society. As a kid, I neither understood nor recognized any of this, I just felt like something was off. It wasn't until later that I understood that the movie was embracing what it wanted to draw attention to in the most extreme light possible to make it's point.

Hahaha! Did I blink and miss the personal battlesuits? The film was just a remake of any WWII film.
Personally how can this atrocity
even come close to this

From what I understand, the book made it clear this was an oppressive, fascist regime. The movie really didn't.
Uh, no. If one doesn't get that Earth is ruled by a fascist - or more precisely, militarist - regime in the film, they're either not paying attention, too focused on the good looking stars and cool special effects, or too young when they saw it. Or Verhoeven is just too subtle a director for them (!!!).

Heinlein's book is set up with an Earth run by a military elite, though I'm not sure he would have thought of it as oppressive. He also probably wouldn't have called it fascistic or militaristic, but with his strange views on libertarianism (which he believed he was espousing in the book), I'm not sure what you would call it.

Also note the film's writer didn't even know about the book Starship Troopers when first writing the script. A producer noticed the similarities between the works, and it was eventually decided to buy the rights for the title and the basic storylines/characters, and to garner more interest from the studios.
