Apparently, Elon is moving into the build an army stage of his plans for world domination.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk says his company is working on a humanoid robot and that it will build a prototype “sometime next year.” The humanoid robot will leverage Tesla’s experience with automated machines in its factories, as well as some of the hardware and software that powers the company’s Autopilot driver assistance software.

Musk, who has spoken repeatedly about his fears of runaway artificial intelligence, said the Tesla Bot is “intended to be friendly,” but that the company is designing the machine at a “mechanical level” so that “you can run away from it, and most likely overpower it.” It will be five feet, eight inches tall, weigh 125 pounds, and have a screen for a face. The code name for the bot inside the company is “Optimus,” he said.
The robots will be designed to handle “tasks that are unsafe, repetitive or boring,” the company’s website reads, but little else, at least at first.
Maybe they can be programmed to drive Tesla's driverless cars...

I forgot to post this.

Now there's a robot I'd go in for the hype on.

I first read this thread as

Tesla plans to make husbanrobots

and thought Jesus wtf so tired of these billionaires and their freaky ideas of the month.

I feel a little let down, now.

That was a human in a robot suit. What I expect to happen is the opposite if they can get this robot built: A robot in a silicone human suit. Like the RealDoll sex toys, but with moving parts. I don't think it is a coincidence that the height & weight of this robot closely matches that of a human female.

HOW DARE YOU QUESTION OUR LORD ELON MUSK! You're just jealous of his wealth! and his ability to.... lie his ass off to idiots who still believe him and get away with securities fraud!

...seriously, it makes me so sad to know that the number one skill for success seems to be being a really, REALLY good liar.

Elon Musk tries to follow the lead of Craig Venter. Venter showed in the human genome project that problems can be solved way faster if only you are willing to throw gazillions of money at them. This is how Musk got into the Space Race and electric car biz. But he was just lucky there. Venter is a totally different kind if entrepeneur. He simply knows what he is getting into, Musk just throws money at things that sound cool.

While Tesla has been progressing from human in silly suit pretends to be robot to robot prototype can almost walk but needs heavily human aid aka humans preventing it from falling over by holding it:

Atlas from Boston Dynamics now got functioning hands, and is able to use them in real life instead the fake footage from Optimus, and do acrobatics:

If Musk had bought Boston Dynamics instead of Twitter, he might be in a much, MUCH better spot in so many ways, lol.

Optimus is just running a preprogrammed series of motions, he does not have the capability of scanning and reacting to his environment. If you think 1960s Disney audioanimatronics, that's what Optimus is.

Essentially Elon is wish.com of the tech industry. All his "ideas" are someone else's only over priced and rarely actually live up to all their claims.

Interesting...

I mean c'mon, when Optimus first was announced Musk just put a human into a silly looking suit and let him dance. Most took that for the real thing first. On the second presentation the Optimus prototype now real on stage was still not able to walk alone without leaning on humans.

So when looking at what stuff Atlas can do just already mechanically due to clever engineering its clear that the Tesla bot still has a long way to go.
