In my corporate career I've OFTEN seen brilliant salesmen get promoted into all kinds of jobs they can't really do... Good salesmanship is often mistaken for leadership in particular...

But yeah, Jobs had a lot of the worst tendencies the men in tech stereotypically have. This includes ridiculing people for their stupid ideas, then later acting like he invented it...

But yeah, Jobs had a lot of the worst tendencies the men in tech stereotypically have. This includes ridiculing people for their stupid ideas, then later acting like he invented it...

I never really thought much about Steve Jobs, to be honest. Just another brilliant rich asshat techie. Physics and cosmology have the deeply introspective, philosophical types filled with awe and wonder and curiousity - but technology? Musk, Mercer, Ellison and their ilk are the guys in the news. When I was younger technologists had, at least, a bit of a hippie bent and there was the NASA "new frontiers" and Star Trek "technology has made us better people" ideation floating about in the air.

Now it's full of selfish stuck-up Libertarians monetizing everything they can touch. Or more likely they're the ones shouting over everybody else and getting the attention, and Google does evil.
