It's still really worrying to see that TV people and others as well don't get how Trump operates, and don't prepare upfront accordingly.

For Trump such a debate is not about having a real debate - nope. It's about having prime estate TV time talking to his own voters, and that's it. Of course he will not try to win over other voters, because he knows exactly that people which are disgusted about him won't change and he will not achieve that over TV. No no. What Trump really wants is to motivate his own voters, and I am sure oh boy he did.

Instead Trump is spinning his little lies, namely like:

1. I am the best and I care...
2. If something goes wrong then because of the Democrats...
3. The others are trying to steal the election...
=> so if I will not get "reelected" you've been robbed by the others. Told you so!

Which is just undermining democracy.

Why did we watch that thing? Donnie talking constantly, even interrupting the moderator, telling the proud boys to stand by when asked to tell them to stop (and would not do so right away), not telling his supporters not to commit violence when Biden did right away, and even starting to trash Beau.

I agree, Trump is not winning himself any new voters, and his behavior might shake off a few of what he already has. Biden's biggest problem, though, is that he doesn't speak well when pressured. Hopefully voters can see past that.

Biden was speaking like you normally do at a debate. Even though the audience was told to be quiet he probably would have gotten a standing ovation if he yelled JUST SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO THE MODERATOR YOU ASSHOLE!!!

Donald Trump came to heckle. He came to interrupt and to pontificate and to flail his arms, batting away questions and facts in a chaotic fury. He was a boor and a troll, holding up his stubby mitts in an angry pantomime as he tried to halt the words coming from former vice president Joe Biden’s mouth. Trump seemed to believe that with a single rude hand gesture, one that he regularly uses to assert his dominance, he could hold back the truth so he could be free to spin and hype and vent.

It was an exhausting mess that spun beyond moderator Chris Wallace’s control and outside the bounds of anything that could reasonably be called a debate. It was a 90-minute display of a president’s testosterone-fueled, unmanaged rage and insecurity.

I watched the whole thing. We kept a running count of beer consumption on Facebook.

Biden clearly communicated that he understands the magnitude of the current crisis. And he has plans to address it. He kept getting talked over and interrupted, but there was passion and a plan there.

Trump was a constant disaster. He tried to stick to the bullshit that works at his campaign rallies and gave a fact free performance. The next debates either need a way to prevent him from yelling over everyone else or they should cancel. My idea was two soundproof booths with a mic cut off. Zoom works, but they need to limit virtual backgrounds.

Biden was good when he kept a focus on policy. He was best when he ignored Trump and talked past the moderator straight to the audience at home. Those tended to piss off Trump. I don't think he really had a strategy to interrupt those moments, but he saw that he wasn't the center of attention so he acted out.

The problem was Biden got into too many direct confrontations with Trump. Ignoring or marginalizing him is his best strategy. It really pisses Trump off and it makes Biden sound both more competent and compassionate. But as the saying goes, don't wrestle with pigs. You only get dirty, but the pig likes it.
