Why is no one doing anything to stop this? What Israel is doing is fucking monstrous.

Unfortunately, the only person who is in a position to do something to stop it is Donald Trump, because he's the only person Netanyahu might listen to. Other heads of government can ask President Trump nicely if he'll intervene, and perhaps he will, and perhaps that'll persuade Netanyahu to relent, but I wouldn't bet on it.

That doesn't mean other world leaders are not obligated to speak out and take whatever actions necessary to put pressure on Israel. Netanyahu is a war criminal who needs to be in jail. Other nations are complicit in it, including the US.

Other governments are speaking out, but it's not having any effect. Trump can cut off military aid to Israel, or threaten to, which might force Netanyahu to lift the blockade, but there's little anyone else can do.

I know this is mostly true but it's a hard thing to accept. I'm starting to hope someone takes more drastic actions such as air dropping food aid into Gaza against Israel's wishes. I'm also surprised nearby countries are still refusing to accept refugees from the area.

They certainly are speaking out now (ex. Carney a couple of days ago accused Israel of violating international law) but it took so long. Not many consequences for Israel at the moment.

Remember all the fund raising with USA for Africa and Band Aid, etc? Just feel helpless at the moment. Even if and when people donate, we can’t even be certain it will reach those in need.

What is so maddening in that article is Israel's cavalier attitude and referring to it as "friction" between civilians and their forces. When other independent organizations are reporting these civilian deaths and the dire inhumane conditions, Israel can't keep claiming it is a smear campaign by Hamas. Is Hamas awful? Yes, they need to go as well. However, at this point, Israel has destroyed any moral authority they could claim.

Joint statement by the UK, France and Germany

The humanitarian catastrophe that we are witnessing in Gaza must end now. The most basic needs of the civilian population, including access to water and food, must be met without any further delay. Withholding essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable. We call on the Israeli Government to immediately lift restrictions on the flow of aid and urgently allow the UN and humanitarian NGOs to carry out their work in order to take action against starvation. Israel must uphold its obligations under international humanitarian law.

We firmly oppose all efforts to impose Israeli sovereignty over the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Threats of annexation, settlements and acts of settler violence against Palestinians undermine the prospects for a negotiated two-state solution.

It seems that Israel has agreed to allow air drops to resume, but this is apparently not a particularly satisfactory solution

Humanitarian organisations said that parachuting aid parcels, which began in early 2024, was ineffective and cannot replace land access.

Numerous Palestinians were killed by falling crates, in stampedes or drowned while trying to retrieve packages from the sea, before last year’s attempts at dropping aid by air ended after several months.

In one case in March 2024, five Palestinians were reported to have been killed when a parachute on an aid package malfunctioned, sending it crashing onto them.

The UN estimates that Gaza requires between 500 and 600 trucks of food and essential supplies a day, a quantity that cannot adequately be supplied by parachute.

More on why dropping aid by parachute from planes is very much a second best solution.

Air dropping aid is an act of desperation. It can also look good on television, and spread a feel-good factor that something, at last, is being done.

Professionals involved in relief operations regard air dropping aid as a last resort. They use it when any other access is impossible. That's not the case in Gaza. A short drive north is Ashdod, Israel's modern container port. A few more hours away is the Jordanian border, which has been used regularly as a supply line for aid for Gaza.

Dropping aid delivers very little. Even big transport planes do not carry as much as a convoy of lorries.

Pallets dropped by parachute often land far from the people who need it. Israel has forced hundreds of thousands of starving Palestinian civilians into a tiny area on the southern coast of Gaza. Most of them live in densely packed tents. It is not clear if there is even an open space for despatchers high in the sky to aim at.

Each pallet will now be fought over by desperate men trying to get food for their families, and by criminal elements who will want to sell it for profit.

The world is not only standing by while Gaza starves, its watching the IDF kill Palestinians trying to get food aid.

(Interview starts at 4:21, Kleenex warning for the first part of this report those easily moved to tears may want to avoid)

A former US veteran who was employed at a food distribution site in Gaza has accused members of the Israel Defence Forces and American colleagues of deliberately targeting and killing unarmed Palestinian civilians. Lieutenant-Colonel Anthony Aguilar, a former special forces veteran, was recruited to work for the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a joint Israeli-US scheme replacing the United Nations food distribution operation in Gaza. He has told the BBC he witnessed the IDF shooting at the crowds of Palestinians, firing a main tank round into a car carrying civilians and firing mortars at crowds of hungry people waiting for food.

That the BBC would air this report is another sign the tide of public opinion is turning against Netanyahu's murderous actions, as is the recent French move to recognize Palestine as a state.

As for aid air drops killing Palestinians, I'm sure they would rather go out this way than slowing starving to death, an extremely physically painful process, added to the emotional toll of watching your family and friends experiencing the same agony.

Why not give him the Milosevic treatment?

Well, yes, it's better than nothing, but it's very much a second best solution and no sort of alternative to Israel allowing the UN to resume delivery and distribution of adequate food aid by road.

You don't negotiate an end to a genocide. You force it. Then again, with the Global North profiting from this genocide, and with their leaderships being corrupt racists like Merz, Mitsotakis, Meloni, and Stürmer...

Do you mean that the EU (and possibly the UK) should put together a "coalition of the willing," which obviously would not include the US, and attempt to force regime change in Israel by military means?

The sad fact of the matter is that the only country in a position to influence Israel is the US.
