All your avis look like the same person no matter which year it was! That’s quite remarkable and must have been a big search to find.
I had much better luck the second time around. My partner bought me the Lelutka Andrea mesh head in 2018 and I hated it (pro-tip, never buy a mesh head for someone else, they really need to find them on their own). I could not make it look the way I wanted so I stuck to my classic av. Fast forward to late 2019 and the situation had changed and I finally went mesh.

Bento heads improved for men (they didn't all look like angry steroid cases or confused 20 somethings). I researched a bit more and found the Catwa Victor head and I liked it, but didn't love it until I also tried a demo of a skin from Birth made for it. The difference between the base skin and the Birth one was dramatic.

My advice is to grab demos of several heads and several skins for them. Start with the base shape it includes and go from there instead of trying your existing shape. That is what ultimately worked for me.

Thanks. I should go in tonight and play with things and see what I can find. I’m also going to play around with clients. I might luck out and there’s a meeting tomorrow I want to get to.

I have a mesh human (elf really) avatar which I use when it seems more appropriate than my fox or raven av.
I've been logging in during my weekends a lot more than I used to.

I would love to get into SL again, I have great memories from it. Every once in a while I get the urge to login, but I have an old computer that most likely would not be able to handle it, and at the moment I can't afford a new one.

Slink has not only updated the two mesh heads I knew about to bom, but she has like 4 more? They look more human, which means I took my updated one right back off, but it might work for people looking for more natural human?

And... I spent the day playing around with a new look for Beth in sl, and well, something more androgynous/NB looking. Sad thing is, if there is not a lot for a slink body, there -really- isn't much for the petite expansion for it.

There's a skin fair right now. Which also includes makeup, shapes, bento mesh heads, bodies...the works. It's still a little busy, but it's on until the 29th, and it's really a great opportunity if someone wants to check out what's out there. You can demo almost everything. Genus has 5 new heads plus their first 3 are there. Lelutka has the new BOM heads. Logo has a new head. Catwa. I can't remember who else. There are heads and skins for men. Two sims.

And to cut down on lag at an event, I find a spot to stand where I'm mostly out of the way, make sure all my camera constraints are off so I can cam/purchase/buy demos over the entire event, go to 'world' (I use the FS viewer) on the top tool bar, and check "show friends only" or however it's worded. And 'poof', everybody except people on my friends list if any are there, disappear. It's more effective, even, then turning high complex avatars into jelly babies. I can still see people entering chat range, anything said in open chat, etc, but they're not being rendered by the viewer at all.

I'm still happy with my old Lelutka head which got an update to bom early on - but I might brave skin fair just to see if something fits my mood better.

There's a ton of BOM skins. I actually was still clinging to appliers because BOM all seemed too complicated. But since my Genus head is BOM compatible and the maitreya body now is, I took the plunge and bought a couple of BOM skins from the Skin Fair. I've been having fun experimenting with them and different makeups and layers. I still have some nice applier skins, so I'm not going full BOM just yet, but it really is great having all of the layer options now for makeups, tattoos, etc.

I've tons of old skins that are still nice, plus the skins I did early on in my shop, in fantasy colours - so naturally I've those skins - there is an alignment issue, but I just need to reupload the textures since I fixed it a while back when I noticed it.

I log in nearly every day for at least a couple of hours. The only thing that stops me logging in more is having to go to work. Even this may change soon, at least temporarily.

There was a period from 2014 to late 2017 when I didn't log in at all, mainly because I was focussing on World of Warcraft. It was only because I lost interest in WoW that I came back to SL.

Oh yes, I had that happen to me, though it was SL that got me looking at WoW in the first place.

I still have a classic head. I have some mesh head demos. and Kay was helping me work on a shape that would make it look like me. Then her RL got crazy busy, and that project went on hold. If I try to work on that myself, I just get frustrated and quit.
I want to stay with my current skin vendor, so I am only looking at heads that she supports.

I didn't log in except for maintenance and housekeeping for a long time, but then I got a TWI fox and then I created a brand new alt just for that avatar and I hang out at regular human clubs as a fox (with green fur for St Paddy's).

What skin do you have currently, Bea?
I use a skin from The Skinnery. Don't recall which one. I have never changed much, for the simple reason that I have found it difficult to find skins with the look I want. Many creators have had trouble creating a truly "fair" skin, as opposed to "pale".

Lots of issues. I'm a little frustrated with my avatar and don't know where to go with it. I'm a little frustrated with trying to learn about all the changes that have been made since I was last in.

I used to create plants and trees but when sclupties came about I kind of just backed off. Some of it was because I just didn't have the time to learn how to use another tool and part of it was because a lot of the people who's SL classes I used to attend left SL. For a long time, I didn't see any classes on building or creating textures so I just kind of bugged out. Classes on how to build and work with my avatar would bring me back.

This would be the ideal time because I'm working from home - so while I have to work during "working hours" there is no commute and I have more time on my hands. Plus I'm planning on retiring in June so that would give me even more time.

The fun of gathering and exploring began to die in me when creation was taken out of the world. Did I say that already? Having little interest in avatar skins and heads and transparencies and shoes left me wandering aimlessly across a landscape that used to be a prim-based social paradise. I'm happy that everyone looks wonderfully lovely in picture perfect environments. It's just not my scene.

It seems better for people to resist the pressure to stay current, if it means they can keep doing what they always did.

I have to make some of what I want, and it’s just going to be simple prims, and I’m never going to judge somebody for holding onto their personally made, old stuff that makes them happy.

It's not secret that a lot of the people here don't sign into SL anymore - the same was true back on SLU. What keeps you from signing into SL?

What would it take for you to check out SL again?
Honestly I out grew it, I found Second Life to be a great place to be my true self "Your world, your imagination" was the hook that brought me in.
I was a very closeted trans-girl and SL provide a place to be me. Since then I have escaped from the closet and I am now a post op transgender living full time as a woman. It was a great tutorial, I learned a lot of things about being a woman from hanging out with the cis gals in world. The real downer is that sometimes I feel like i have over stayed the party, all my friends are gone and SL does not have the same feel anymore. I don't have to hide and taking Roxie to the real world has been great. I don't wear green make up LOL
