Google Groups is ending support for Usenet to combat spam

Google has officially announced it's ceasing support for Usenet groups on its Google Groups platform, a move partly attributed to the platform's increasing struggle with spam content.

Google has officially announced it's ceasing support for Usenet groups on its Google Groups platform, a move partly attributed to the platform's increasing struggle with spam content.

The upcoming changes will take effect from February 22, 2024, after which users can no longer post, subscribe, or view new Usenet content through Google Groups.

However, historical Usenet content posted before this cutoff date will remain accessible for viewing and searching on the platform.

So you can still visit its grave site after tomorrow.

Through there are still public (and private) NNTP servers out there, so? I guess death on the interwebs is not so clear cut.

None of the private servers have an archive as deep as Google's though. Google ho ered up DEJA a while back.

I wish Google would just put out a mailbox or whatever format that people.cpuld download and archive from the DEJA days

Maybe for a day's worth. At some point in 1999. (Can't find a breakdown of just the text groups.)
