So, back on June 6th, I got an email stating that there was a suspicious login to my Twitter account. I immediately went in, saw some foreign location had logged in a day earlier, logged out all signins just in case, changed my password, instituted 2FA.. What I did not do was check any tweets that may have occurred while they were in (absent-minded). A few days later, I get an email that my account has been suspended. This time I sign in and see that they posted what appears to have been 4 spam tweets, presumably cryptocurrency related.

I can get into my profile, cannot post, obviously, cannot delete the tweets in question, but also cannot de-activate my account. When I try to do so, it tells me I may not do that as I have been suspended. I had been thinking of doing that anyway, as I had been noticing more and more right wing crapola splattered about Twitter. Okay, so I do the whole *submit an appeal* option, asking them to de-activate my account. Three times, so far. Three times, no response, account still active, but suspended.

I expect no response from them, nor do I expect to be able to de-activate as I assume the suspension was automated due to spam filters, and now since Elon got rid of darn near everyone, my appeals are just going into the netherworld that is now an empty desk at the main Twitter office.

I mostly just wanted to complain about Twitter, but if anyone has an idea about how I may fix this, I'm all ears.

How long is the suspension? Maybe just wait it out. If it’s only a few weeks, sucks but not that bad. If more, idk.

Then I’d deactivate your account. Why encourage such a site?

I used to love twitter, and I miss it, well, the way it was before. You could control your experience by limiting your follows to what types of conversations you enjoyed, or could simply follow news sites. But since Elon bought it, I finally pulled the plug a while back.

Did anyone notice? You can’t see tweets anymore unless you have an account and are logged in.

The suspension is permanent. The relevant message on my screen upon login:

Your account is suspended
After careful review, we determined your account broke the Twitter Rules. Your account is permanently in read-only mode, which means you can’t Tweet, Retweet, or Like content. You won’t be able to create new accounts. If you think we got this wrong, you can submit an appeal.

I can get into my *Setting and Support* area, but functionally cannot do anything, including de-activate. The option is there, however, when I attempt to de-activate, I get this message:

Your account is suspended and is not permitted to perform this action

I've filed three appeals, as that is really my only option, in all three explaining what I know of the login that occurred (Date/Time/Location), changing of pw, addition of 2FA, request to de-activate, etc...

No response from the netherworld.

Awhile back, I had intended to put 2FA on my account. When I was going to do so, in the method that texts your phone and/or brings up a "Is this you" message, I saw that I would not be allowed to do so, unless I had Twitter Blue. I basically mouthed a "And fuck you, too, Elon", signed out and thought no more of it. I was not a frequent user, so it was not until I got the email that I knew it had been compromised.

After the account was compromised, upon changing the password (generated random password) I went into the 2FA area once again and saw that I could do it with Google Authenticator, and did so. Oy vey. I'm guessing that I missed that option the first time I was in there.

It seems to have happened between last night and this morning. This morning I've been getting the "something went wrong, retry" message (it doesn't work) on the ones I've clicked on in threads.

On the other hand, I don't have an account because their screwed up system wouldn't complete the registration process on several different occasions and IPs.

Right? I've had the account since 2014. I only posted occasionally. I usually just read or responded to others' posts, but I did post occasionally, with one being fairly recent before the compromise.

With this compromise, if there was a human at Twitter, they could see easily that these four spam tweets posted back to back were due to the breach by looking at all of my previous posts and the foreign login, but I doubt there is anyone manning the stations anymore, or if so very few people.

Meanwhile, hateful posts abound at Twitter.

ETA: Apparently, I hit my limit before I ever looked at anything on Twitter today. From Wesley's post it looks there is more to this as I suspected because there is no way in hell I hit anywhere even close to 300 on any given day. Not even 10 a day. Only Twitter links I follow are from here on VVO and I don't look at all of them. Just the few that catch my interest. Like maybe 5-10 times a week.

Its true. I logged out or delete all accounts when Musk became official, and if I go to Twitter, I can't see anything, it just pronpts me to log in.
