A lot of interesting stuff here, of which I certainly wasn't aware.

A great deal of harm, to my mind, has been caused by people, primarily but by no means exclusively on the right, who've created a culture war issue out of something best handled by making practical accommodations in particular circumstances where some people may feel uncomfortable about being undressed around other people (e.g. provide individual changing rooms or curtained-off booths in clothes stores).

Does the USA even have many group changing rooms anymore? I've not seen or heard of one in many years.... We should not be making many policy decisions around something that does not need to exist and barely exists anymore....

But yes, it's very frustrating to see people moralize what is really just a medical issue.

It's maybe also worth noting that the UK's Supreme Supreme Court ruling about whether trans people who have not yet obtained a gender recognition certificate must, for the purposes of the Equality Act, be treated as their presenting gender amounts to "not necessarily," partly because the Court was unwilling to find that trans men who give birth (regardless of their official gender recognition status) are not entitled to maternity benefits, leave, and employment protection.
