The 'Barbie' Movie Is Ending Relationships Left And Right

More than a week after the release of the “Barbie” movie, social media is full of stories of women who say they deeply reconsidered their relationships after seeing the film, which has grossed more than $775 million globally so far.
“AITA for breaking up with my boyfriend over the Barbie movie?” one woman asked on the popular “Am I the Asshole” subreddit, before sharing the story of how her boyfriend complained to her about the movie’s feminist themes after they left the showing.

Theresa Arzate, 27, of Dallas, shared on Twitter that her ex-boyfriend’s reaction in the theater was just the push she needed to call it quits.

He’s a good guy, she told HuffPost, but they were having issues long before seeing the movie. Their lived experiences are pretty different, and the “Barbie” movie highlighted just how differently they view the world.

“I was so invested in the movie that I really didn’t even recognize how he was perceiving it until he asked, ‘Are you crying?’ two or three times throughout,” Arzate told HuffPost.

After the movie, “we amicably came together to recognize that we’re just not on the same wavelength,” she explained. “We could argue till the end of time what gender/sex has a tougher time going through life.”
Barbie >> Dr. Phil?

I think we should have more movies that force young people to reevaluate their relationship choices. Once you get on that train, you're not getting off without a lot of bruises.

I haven’t really paid attention to what the movie is about (yes I live under a rock and don’t use Twitter anymore) but I may watch it now just to see what all the fuss is about.
All I know is that my daughter lived and breathed Barbie growing up. She inherited mine :D

It's the old case of people anthropomorphizing inanimate objects. Like dolls.

Full disclosure: I've watched paranormal shows that claim some creepy doll is moving around. It could be projection :D

I loved the movie, but I emerged from it furious and despairing over our society. It took many days to feel normal again.
My reason for not watching it right there. ☝

I rarely watch movies or TV anymore, but definitely want to see Barbie since I know it triggered a lot of annoying conservative and "centrist" men.

And yeah... if a movie of any kind causes a breakup, it probably should have happened anyway.

My then-girlfriend got upset with me one time I got a bit of dust in my eye at a movie, 'cos it wasn't manly. God, I was such a wimp. We got over it, but it was touch-and-go for a while.
If a friend of mine ever told me she lost interest in a dude for such a reason I'd probably spoil the friendship by telling her all about how stupid she was...
