Well I disagree with the conclusion of that podcast: from a national level this might be problematic in case your own population is going down. So countries like Japan, Italy, German, USA etc

But from a global perspective this is great news, because it means that the ever growing population of mankind on earth some day will come to an end, finally!

Also fuck economy, because economy is worth nothing if at the end of the day we got an economy but no stable enough planet to live on any longer.

I also disagree with his findings on toxins et.al, because just take a look at Africa. Africa will go from 1.5 bn people to around 4 bn by 2100. So how is this growth explainable in the context of toxins?

Tin foil hat lovers would call this another covert action from the WEF. Period.

Anyway, in most countries with declining population this correlates with personal wealth and social net provided by the state. The richer the state becomes, the slower population increase becomes because less children are needed to guarantee the survival of their parents.

I've always been curious, how much does this instinct control us? what if governments started pushing a fertility agenda.. if we didn't have to worry about housing or food or stress from work, made it easy to get married...... would we still be pumping them out if all our needs were met? or are our capitalist needs pushing beyond the prolific nature of human reproduction?
I think it's some of both. I have friends who I know REALLY want/wanted babies. ...I just don't. I think this is a deep desire for some people but was certainly a pragmatic necessity for a long time too.

Amateur...

We used to have chalkboards, and finally, relatively dustless coloured chalk. We were pleased.

Now we have toxic dry erase paint which produces sticky moon dust that stains skin and coats everything else in the room. We are not pleased.

I tell students to go home if I pass out. Just leave me there. It’s only the amyl nitrite in the marker putting me down.

The Baby Bust: How The Toxicity - The Great Simplification with Nate Hagens - Apple Podcasts

Reproduction rates are falling fast around the world, due to a combination of fewer people deciding to have babies and falling fertility rates for those who do want children. Fascinating topic that is multi-layered and complex in the way it affects the economy and societies.
The joy of early onset dementia...

For the SECOND time I thought this title (the toxicity part) referred to MAGA and toxic masculinity in general was leading to an American 4B Movement.

Also the joy of early onset dementia...

For YEARS I've been unable to recall the word dementia, itself, and had to google the word alzheimer's almost every single time I needed to use the word dementia.

It's like my brain has stored some words (and some names) on cracks in my memory.

Trouble with that particular word was funny, at first.

I used to know people stupid enough to buy it in little brown bottles and huff it. Very few of them made it past 20.

Some of us did. We also survived acid trips and somehow managed to not contract HIV when friends were dying all around us. Reckless we were but I never thought to fault anybody their lifestyle or consider them stupid. Life is life. People die at all ages for a vast myriad of reasons. I am not still here because I outsmarted the deceased.

Looking back, I can only shake my head and wonder how I made it to age 70. And even more so my wife. Mrs. Beebo was bull-headed and reckless in her youth.
Well, Keith Richards turned 81 today. I'm pretty sure he's got anything you or Mrs. Beebo did beat by about 10 miles.

I once saw him walk past the window where I was sitting -- a restaurant on 6th Avenue in NYC. My first thought was something like, "Holy crap is that a SKELETON?" Then I realized who it was -- and figured, "Damn. No way ol' Keef is still alive a year from now. That's a shame." People shouldn't be gray!

That was 1982.

Not sure how you got that from what I said but the thought never even crossed my mind. What I was thinking of is the guy I was falling in love with at a tender age who huffed and die in the treehouse across the street that I could see from my bedroom window. I was 13 at the time.

Approaching 60 here, but pretty much the same. In my 20's I couldn't outsmart a light-bulb ("I'm wasted, I'm horny, sure I'll get in a car with a strange guy and take a trip to Canada. woo hoo!"); so that's definitely not why I'm still around!

You all are making me realize just how incredibly "risk averse" I am.

Yeah, I flip between telling myself I'm rational and berating myself for being cowardly.... I rarely did risky things when younger. I was always kind of boring. I use games and SL role play to do crazier things!

Getting back on topic, I was reminded of The Handmaids Tale. Since one of the things that led to Sons of Jacob and Gilead was a Baby Bust. And one of the punishments they inflicted was being sent to "The Colonies" to do environmental cleanup....without protective gear.

Yeah, SL and other games is where I do the crazy things that I would never do in RL.
