Southern Baptists vote to advance a formal ban on churches with women pastors

Thousands of Southern Baptists overwhelmingly voted Wednesday to advance a formal ban on women pastors in the nation’s largest Protestant denomination, sending a clear message that men alone should preach to these conservative evangelical congregations.

The amendment would tighten existing restrictions in the Southern Baptist Convention, which already has a faith statement opposing women pastors.

The vote at the annual meeting was 6,028 to 2,026 — a 3-to-1 margin — which easily exceeded the required two-thirds majority. It will require a similar two-thirds vote at next year’s meeting to become part of the constitution.

I'm honestly very shocked by just how strong the anti social progress movements have gotten since about 2016. After the gay marriage ruling in 2015 I was very confident the country was moving in the right direction. ....oh boy has that been a mess since then.

In part it was BECAUSE of that ruling that the anti-social progress types got riled up. They found out they couldn't really mess with Oberfell, so they decided to pick on trans people, racial minorities, muslims and women....and put them in their place.

There's also a bit of a feedback loop going on. The more radicalised they become, the less they appeal to more moderate believers. So over time, only the radicals remain - and then the cycle repeats itself and they become even worse.

In 1845, the Southern Baptists separated from the Triennial Convention to uphold the institution of slavery, as American society divided over slavery preceding the American Civil War.

Not to worry, they apologized for that in 1995.
