A ling while ago, I moved into some cheap land next to the Rez Zone in Tathlina. The entire sim was basically deserted. I had a small strip of land directly touching the rez zone (aqua sign in the image below). I abandoned half the land at one point to cut down on tier but kept a little diner there with a sandbox in the sky.

Then off one edge, someone built a little truck depot for GTFO next to the Rez Zone on the abandoned land. It was decent enough. I know the Driver's of SL group has been using my diner as a start point for drives a few times because they always asked about doing so. I figure the GTFO hub was one of them.

One day the depot was mostly gone and the land had been split up for stupid cheap. The piece I used to own was there for almost nothing so I picked it up again. My new neighbor picked up a lot of the rest. He still seems to be sort of "work in progress" a bit, he put up a slightly different GTFO hub for a bit. It kept growing though. Eventually he asked about buying the piece of land I had picked up cheap. I mostly just wanted the prims, and decided to request some of the abandoned land on the opposite side and let him have the old piece. Land on the opposite side would give me more roadside and a better shape of land to work with.

It kind of felt Win-Win.

I am guessing my neighbor didn't realize you could request abandoned land like this, and I feel like I have awaken a monster. I logged in and found that he now basically owns ALL of the previously abandoned land in the region and has constructed this... huge... base... monstrosity. It doesn't really affect my little parcel yet but man I feel bad for the person with the house in the image there.

What a dick, though - why would you do something like what he did to that house in the middle?

If I'm not mistaken, can't you complain to LL if someone who acquires land all the way around you does something like that? Land-griefing or something, they call it?

I’ve heard of action being taken in the event of surrounding with ban lines but that was over a decade ago when wild Lindens could still be seen on the grid.

Seems to me the dude referenced in the OP is just a dude who went super manic.

If it was me, I'd just build in the sky and ignore them. But, I prefer more privacy and control of ugly things nearby, anyway.

Thought I'd create an account to respond to this topic, I was active on SLU back in the day so browse here occasionally and hence saw this thread.

I'm the buyer of the old GTFO hub and let me say the comments accurately describe things very fairly and perhaps raise some interesting questions about mainland. My motivation initially was to save the GTFO hub and avoid it being split up. I did so as it's a nice location for road access and I visited on a recent Drivers of SL trip. As said already there were crazy low cost tiny plots and as I had spare tier I bought them. Very quickly the main land by the Linden road was for sale and I thought the price fair so completed my initial objective of saving the road hub.

I have bought abandoned land for years for my former rentals business and so know the process well. The land team do a great job cutting and joining plots but that's another story. For completeness I actually raised a ticket to buy the whole of the abandoned land but as the OP said she secured the land next to her property giving more road frontage which was a good thing. By now I'd decided to build a fright hub and have thrown myself into making it as realistic as I can. From the outset I recognised the house like those nail homes in China and felt bad. I've never seen them online but planned to offer a land swap for them, a lovely plot in South Islandia (link below). My best guess, which is speculation is they are not active in SL.

The comment about super manic made me smile and I guess my style in SL can be very focussed on my mission. I've had great feedback from some GTFO folk and that encouraged me. I didn't intentionally grief or intend harm to anyone. The height of my hub is that is the road end and there are other well above ground buildings nearby, just not as large.

Sorry for the length of this post, I guess I'm rationalising and building up to asking what can I do now within reason to 'make this right', serious question as I'm a thoughtful person.

This is the land I'd earmarked for swap, I see that as fair as the Tathlina land is irregular shape grass. They would gain land that can be terraformed as sand or shallow water in a nice area. I'd gain by no more ban lines along their boundary.

I had a situation like this where my tiny little 512 parcel was completely surrounded by someone who had purchased up all the cut parcels of mainland in that sim to run a roleplay sim. It was not nearly so bad because they built way up in the sky. In the end, they ended up offering me a pretty penny to buy me out.

I just want to say I really was mostly just kind of shocked by all the stark darkness that had sort of spring up suddenly. And the house being surrounded. I probably did sort of bent a bit too rashly.

I am not somsure about the house be unoccupied or not. A lot of that area has been mostly empty until recently. There was one person selling little prefab homes briefly along the road. Then of course the giant furry gym thing, but I think that's the next region over.

Anyway, I hope I didn't offend you, I just was, kind of shocked.

Thanks for the reply Noodles, I wasn't offended. I was a little shocked just how carried away I've got in Tathlina, you can see that from the way I've detailed the runway and taxiway making it as realistic as possible. There is a lot of abandoned land in the next region to the north and east and it was just typical me to expand and expand as the land was <=1L$/sqm.

I've messaged the only member of the group that owns the house who is online and she says she doesn't know the group creator. The land was claimed in 2008 and the plot has zero traffic. I'll send a notecard to the group founder with my swap offer.

Any other suggestions let me know anytime.

Welcome to VV, and welcome back to the SLU community, Lloyd. And may I say that I'm awestruck by such a lovely, generous response. You are indeed a thoughtful person, and it's so refreshing compared to the usual slash-and-burn entry by someone who has been called out for an SL conflict of whatever kind.

I do hope you'll stick around.

Thank you Beebo for your kind comment which I really appreciated. I will stick around as I think this is a special online community, the comments are thought provoking and I hope to contribute to VV.
