The biggest gaming release of the year is happening in a few hours. Red Dead Redemption 2 releases for the Xbox and PS4 at midnight ET on Friday in the US.

Just as GTA V did for its time, RDR 2 pushes the envelope in terms of what is possible in an open world game - it has taken things to a level never before seen in any game.

It is getting rave critical reviews:
Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the most convincing open-world game ever made

Comparison of the game's graphics on each console:

Spoiler alert: the Xbox One X version is the best version of the game in terms of graphics.

No PC release has been confirmed yet, but given the success of GTA V on the PC, one will most likely happen eventually.
The online component of RDR2 will launch sometime in November.

I really, really want to play. But, gotta get an external drive first so I don't have to delete every single game I've got downloaded to the PS4. That thing's a whopper.

I'm use to it so I'll volunteer to be Negative Nancy here. :ROFLMAO: I absolutely loved the first one...so much that it is in my top 3 favs all time (if not top 1). But I am also a Rockstar hater. I feel they don't really understand what people loved about the first (story wise) and have tried too hard to be edgelords with stories since (Trevor in gta5, etc).

The only thing I feel this one does better than the first is the "relationship" you build with your horse and of course graphics. For it being 8 years after the first there is not as much progress or additions. As far as open world gameplay goes...it is as good as all the others (mostly ubi ones). Gameplay itself is so clunky (as is rockstar's way at this point).

I like the game enough and have played quite a few hours but feel no real pull to continue on as I kinda hate the story and feeling like I am forced to be an outlaw. Even if I do all the "good" honor stuff my char is always saying to npcs how he'd rather rob or kill someone. :cautious: The environments are beautiful (playing in hdr on a xbonex). Fishing and hunting seem particularly involved. Customization is kinda weak...I got excited to go to a new area and check out their stores. Aaaand all the clothes on offer in the fancy Louisiana Store were the same as my lil starter cowpoke store. And the first 2 1/2 hours are torturous as Rockstar pulls you around by a nose-ring and lets you have little control over your actions or movements.

So after all the wait the story is very meh for me but it will be a hoot I'm sure to play with some of the wild VVoers in the online part later (though of course Rockstar will be waiting with their hand out hoping for you to swipe your card :ROFLMAO:).

I upgraded my 500GB launch model internal drive to 2TB, which I knew I would have to do eventually, I heartily reccomend doing so. Even with the 2TB drive, big-ass MMO's, RPG's and whatnot eat up that space. Video captures also eat up space.

Digging RDR2. I have a tendency to play good guys and the outline here kind of forces you into the Outlaw role so I find myself more frequently resolving issues with lead. The first was was a blast to play, but I think a lot of refinement has made this one better than the first (IMHO) the stories so far have been very well done. I normally wait for the PC release but I couldn't wait for this one. I'll likely buy the PC edition once it's out too if for no other reason than the amazing conversions this will likely inspire.
