Photoshop alternative that allows painting and pasting directly onto 3d models?

I have used Photoshop CS5 Extended for years in creating outfits for my Second Life avatars. The ability to paint directly onto the SL avatar mesh, as well as paste images on it, has made the process super easy.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and I discovered that Photoshop CS6 (the latest and last version of the Creative Suite) is supposedly incompatible with it. I have looked at alternatives and I don’t see any that have the functionality I require, not even GIMP which is open-source.

I am curious if anybody knows of an alternative to Photoshop that allows painting and pasting images directly on 3d models. Otherwise, going forward, I will have to subscribe to Creative Cloud, which I am aware lots of users are very unhappy about. I find that Adobe’s Photography Plan is super cheap at just $10 a month and it lets one use Photoshop. I just hope Adobe doesn’t eventually discontinue that plan.

You can download Virtual Box to set up a virtual machine, install an older O.S. that's compatible with CS6 and use that as needed. For greater security, buy a used box that gets unplugged from the Internet once an O.S. is on it and use that instead. You can also go to Alternativeto.net and hunt around for other programs similar to CS6.

I'm pretty sure I've heard in VVOne about other programs that let you paint like you're used to.

I don't know about running virtual machines.

Virtual Box is pretty easy to set up. Even an "average" user can get go from zero to setting up an operating system in half an hour, or 15 minutes if they know how to read the fine manual. It's also free.

It's one of the very few things that Oracle hasn't totally f*cked up.

I'm still not sure about using a VM, though.

What about those "other programs that let you paint like you're used to?"

I bought this for my iPad, figuring I could make embossed textures of something: It was $10

Then I find out it wants the Apple Pencil, which is $100 or so. Might try a knockoff stylus.
Anyway, it exports to PSD. I haven't got the hang of it yet, but someone with graphics background could hit the ground running, I guess.

The best painting tool in my opinion is Substance Painter, but its pricey. You might like Armor Paint, which seems to be extremely inexpensive without all the fancy features: ArmorPaint | 3D PBR Texture Painting.
