I think the key to Trump's downer on solar is this part: "Millions of people in poorer countries now have more reliable access to electricity, often through their own endeavours rather than massive installed infrastructure." Oh noes, the 'shithole' countries can haz their own cheap energy, and be less reliant on infrastructure controlled by multinationals! Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's his 'logic' in a nutshell.

At its nut is centralization vs decentralization. One can be bribed, grifted, coerced, influenced, & controlled; the other can't.
