Presumably the Office suite automatically updates, in which case this is just included in the update (probably before Microsoft made this announcement).

Yeah my understanding is, the apps *check* for updates at least, if the computer is online. Support has already been ended so there won't be any updates, but evidently at the same time it checks to verify some kind of certificate, and those certificates are what's about to expire. Microsoft can easily renew them, it would cost them literally nothing, but they've decided not to do that in order to force Office 2019 users to give them more money.

And you don't get to "keep your data" if you used Publisher. They recommended making pdfs as no Office product currently available will open the Publisher files.
