I think ours was maybe 6 inches. I had an early morming (6:30A) medical procedure and we made it there, though the trip was slow.

Update from central Virginia: I'm completely iced in until hopefully sometime next week. Temperatures haven't been above freezing, even though it's been sunny the past couple of days. The top layer of ice exposed to the sun has been melting and then refreezing at night when the temps plunge into the teens (F). Our street is solid ice, even worse because people have been driving on it and packing it down during the day. Schools are closed until next week, we've had no FedEx, UPS, Prime, or mail deliveries all week, and they have canceled trash pickup lol.

The city has explained that they just don't have the heavy equipment to deal with this much ice. They are having to break up the ice and then push it off the roads. Salt is actually making it worse because it melts during the day and refreezes again at night and they have to start all over. They have managed to clear the main roadways, but side streets are virtually impossible.

We are expecting a couple inches of snow this weekend. The good news is the daytime temps next week are expected to be above freezing, although dropping into the teens again at night. I'm very grateful my power has stayed on.

Yeah, this is the real threat from this storm. It hit so heavy in the southern areas, where they just don't have the ewuipment to deal with it at this scale and many of the residents just don't know how to handle (drive) as well in it.

A coworker in Wisconsin was talking about how they had no snow. In Wisconsin of all places.

I imagine, partly because of the weather, its not feasible to say, ship snow trucks around to the south to help clear it out. The trucks are heavy and probably too fuel inefficient to drive down there directly, semis carrying them would be a hazard on the roads, and by the time it was all organized it may all have melted anyway.

Wow, Archer! stay safe. I hope you have all you need with you. Slippery for cars, but mustn’t be easy for walking, either. Might lose a few trees, too.

I prefer snow to ice.

What happened to "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds"?

Stay safe and warm out there, Archer. Ice sucks. And the frozen stuff is no fun either.

It might have to be a thing to have snow clearing equipment on a railway siding with crews on standby going forward.

Ice from a storm:

ADVANTAGES:

1) Free skating, sort of, but you'd be better off going to an ice rink. Way better off.

DISADVANTAGES:

1) Literally every single other thing about it. Every. Effing. Thing.
