Well since I only live on mainland, I never knew it was different on private estates.

One thing you can count on in SL, LL always puts mainland first. They will take care of issues on mainland before worrying about private estates. That hasn't changed in the 20 years I've been a resident. It should, imo.

LOL, networked advertising is STILL allowed in 2024, not sure where you got the idea they were banned. There is a whole list of rules regarding them, but as long as your ad parcel conforms to the rules, its fine

Just because something isn't technically forbidden, doesn't mean that it's a good thing to do.
In other words, just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.

This sort of advertising is totally ineffective. SL users HATE those 16m² ads. SL users have been trained to ignore in-world ads for years. And who the hell is going to pay attention to an ad in the middle of bumfuck mainland. People who pay for those ads are wasting their money.

My attitude is if its not forbidden, it's allowed. If I can do it, I will do it if I want to. Don't like it, petition LL to change the rules
I personally don't care if I see an ad as I drive by.
As for my ad boards, I use them for self promotion, I don't rent them out. Its free tier, they don't cost me anything except what I paid for it, and when I get tired of it, I sell it for a profit

You seem to be confusing ad farming and networked advertising. Adfarming is used to force the sale of land. Since land has no value on a private estate, you don't need to "force" someone to sell their property, you can buy your own for $1 L.

Obviously you meant networked advertising. There are no "drive bys" on an island, so there is no purpose for setting out an ad. However, if you did want to put an ad on your parcel, that's up to the estate owner if its permitted or not.
