Intriguing and disturbing article about fierce debates on how to treat "long Covid". My completely inexpert take is that since "long Covid" refers a syndrome comprising a wide variety of symptoms, either singly or in combination, following either a suspected or confirmed Covid diagnosis, as opposed to a single recognisable ailment with a known cause, such as Covid itself, it's hardly surprising that particular therapies have widely different results, from highly beneficial, no effect, or positively harmful.

Thanks! and yeah.... I think part of why experts are confused is because there is no ONE long covid, there are a bunch of different things COVID can jack up in the body that might not be very related.

When I got COVID a few years ago, I had a few days of being sick, like a month of always wanting to go to bed early and sleep more than normal. ...but in particular I had a cough and throat irritation that lasted upwards of 2 years. To this day, I sometimes will randomly feel like my throat is just really irritated in a way that never happened before getting COVID.

I also can really understand why many healthcare providers are quick to assume something is all in the patient's head when they can't easily find a cause. ...but enough people have long covid so that we know it's a real thing. And as I said, it's probably many different things.

I think it's also possible that experts will NOT Have this all sorted out before everyone with long COVID just gets better or dies.

COVID is still very much around, to the tune of about 1,000 hospitalizations per week. I think it is reasonable to postulate that long COVID is still happening, too.

Yes, true.... though I wonder if the more mysterious, long covid symptoms will fade as it becomes a less "novel" virus. We have reason to think a lot of long symptoms of older pandemics existed, but didn't last forever. Kamilah's post about the 1919 flu may be an example.

H1N1 killed so many until the vaccine was widespread. Good thing no one's arguing about the COVID vaccine, right? Right? Beuller?
