I'm 1/8th Rom, but I wouldn't claim it as my cultural identity, because I wasn't raised as one, though I do feel a kinship with them on some level, and have well before I learned of this little family 'secret' from my mom. Her mom denied it her whole life, but then, she was the Bucket lady writ american style, too. [And for those doing the math, she was half.] And my Poppop, what little I remember of him and what I know of him, didn't exactly live the lifestyle, either.
Exactly. I was not raised in Finland so do not claim to be so. So technically Finnish-American would be more accurate for being raised in the culture in the US (which I was, I can relate to a LOT of things people raised in Finland experienced, like learning to ski before learning to walk). Usually people drop the "-american" bit when referring to what they are in the US though, which is why I say Finish as that is the majority non-US culture I was exposed to.

DNA is not cultural heritage. There are very clear requirements for becoming a citizen of the Cherokee nation. Both Warren and Trump are simply promoting the expectation that only Native Americans will fight for Native American rights, that nobody else will, that nobody else can.
She was not claiming she is a native. Donnie challenged her on an issue with a pretty bad test so she met him on his terms rather than argue about his criteria being wrong.

There's the issue for me: Any time you accept his terms for a challenge, you lose. We need to stop rising to his bait and forcing him to accept reality's terms.

It really wasn't that much trouble for her to take a DNA test, nor did it cost that much, and I'm sure it was more to satisfy herself, than for proving Mr. Trump wrong. She just played the game the wrong way. Hopefully she won't make the same mistake twice if she is indeed going to run for President.
