I was recently called a "tankie," which apparently is now a Democrat / centrist insult for anyone to the left of Fetterman (or whatever passes for the "mainstream" Democrat these days).

I'm not American anyway, so whatevs, but it's been instructive and "interesting" (i.e., horrifying) watching the Dems shoot themselves in the foot, the crotch, the arm, and whatever other part they can reach, by isolating and stigmatizing those who, in theory, should be their allies. The party under Harris has marched to the right on just about every issue other than reproductive rights, and is utterly intolerant of anyone from the left who won't jump on the bandwagon.

The whole Chappell Roan thing was a case in point: she was dragged through the mud by hundreds of Democrats who were outraged because, despite admitting she'd be voting for Harris, she had serious reservations. She used the term "critical thinking" something like 4 times in her last video on the subject of politics, a quality that appears to be very much out of fashion in the US right now.

If Harris loses in November (and I'm increasingly thinking that is likely), I think that demonizing important parts of their own natural constituency (including Arab Americans in places like Michigan) is going to have played an important role.

Totally agree. Which is all the more reason why it's incredible that Trumpers can tell you with a totally straight face they think democrats are "leftist" or "communist."

I'm very far from a communist, but really just wish the USA would do universal healthcare, universal background checks on guns, and stop trying to take away reproductive rights and gay rights. These positions are pretty centrist in most countries.

Weirdly enough, I even know some Trumpers who are mostly consistent with democrats on issues. They just seem to love Trump's "vibes" for some weird reason.

Or you vote Democrat, because the only other option is fascism, but you work like hell to make the Democrats assume more progressive stances, rather than aping the right in a bid to attract "centrist" voters, thereby decreasing the distance between the two parties.

And the best time to do that is when one has a bit leverage, during an election. The whole point of the Chappell Roan story is precisely that she said she would be voting for Harris, but still got crapped on, almost exclusively by Democratic operatives, because she dared to suggest that the party's stance on trans issues and Palestine were unsatisfactory. God forbid anyone criticize The Party publicly!

I can't believe that you are seriously suggesting that one wholeheartedly, unthinkingly, and uncritically embrace The Party merely because they represent the lesser of two evils. Child av are not a small segment of the population. Well we are now since a great deal of us have left. It's not just the child av's that are leaving. Families are also leaving.

With all due respect, child avatars ARE a relatively small segment of SL. The child/family AV community is a small niche community, just like many other communities in SL like Steampunks, Furries, Tinies and so forth. The vast majority of SL has little interaction with child AV's and doesn't have a real opinion on them. The people who don't like child avatars are pretty much the same people who don't like furries, tinies, trans people, gay people, and even fashionistas. They're just techy edgelord jerks who can be ignored because they have no real power.

SL's user numbers vary depending on seasons, there's no big exodus. If anything it's an exodus from private islands to Linden Homes. (The Premium Plus linden homes get taken as fast as they're put on the grid.)
