So it has been almost a year since inZOI was released into early access with a tremendous amount of hype. While it looked spectacular, it felt kind of soulless and empty. A lot has changed in a year.
The development team has been incredibly involved with the community, in ways I have honestly never seen in any game. It is a huge difference from EA, who just breaks stuff each time they update the Sims and occasionally makes a token effort to fix the disaster that is the Sims 4 at this point, with over $1500 in DLC available for it.
The lead developer makes videos every week showing the progress and what is coming in both minor and major updates. He solicits detailed feedback from users across Discord, forums, Reddit, etc.. and makes an effort to address as much as he can and to use it to influence their direction (while staying true to their vision for the game). The roadmap for 2026 is exciting, and also includes a major focus on improving the fundamentals.
It still needs some time to cook, but the updates have made significant progress. Adding a new vacation city last year and things like being able to run your own business has made the game deeper and deeper. Yes, it still has its quirks, but it is a massive improvement over a year ago. I look forward to the core systems continuing to be refined, and also the major addition of multiplayer (both coop and large scale) to the game later this year.
If you own inZOI and haven't been back recently, give it a try - it is worth revisiting. A lot of Sims video creators have pivoted to other games, including inZOI, now that EA is soon to be owned by murderous Saudis and the Trump family. Here are a couple of my faves showing off the recent and forthcoming updates.
