20 years ago, on the 11/19/1998, the game Half Life was being released by the back then underdog developer Valve Corporation under the publisher Sierra Online, after long development.

Half Life was the break through for Valve Corporation, it skyrocketed the genre to new heights and proofed, that shooters can indeed tell an immersive story very well. With Gordon Freeman as silent protagonist it also features the granddaddy prototype of the badass nerd, and the game itself was a quantum leap for the genre and until today remains being remembered as genre defining and as one of the best games of all times as well.

The graphics was already back then a little bit dated, but since Half Life allowed third party mods, and maps it later gave birth to Counterstrike, which started as a third party mod, and the developers were soon hired by Valve.

2004 Half Life 2 was being published, and since then Valve had problems counting up to three... though Portal plays in the same universe, it gives no clues about the continuation of Gordon Freeman and his friends.

Since then people have been waiting to finally get their hands dirty again - using the legendary and almighty crowbar!
