I sure hope he wins the lawsuit. Also, maybe he should sue the jail as well for not protecting him from rape. Why is this allowed to happen to people in jail?

It's considered right, moral, and just in a revenge based penal system.
That's the excuse at best, but not the reason. Protecting inmates from each other is an expense that reduces profit. Since they are criminals -- largely poor, black and scary to the public -- there is little societal pressure to treat them decently.

This has long been a fear of mine. Courts leaning on AI that is probabilistic at best. These tools should be used but with human verification. I'm also terrified some companies will start doing layoffs by algorithms.

It's why the public mostly doesn't care. A lot of revenge minded Americans can justify any inhumane punishment for any crime. You are absolutely right that our prison system would care more if it actually hurt their profits, but it does not.

This whole mess reminds me a bit about how swatting pranks have gotten people killed. I mean sure.... the prankster carries a lot of the blame, but calling the cops on an innocent person should have no real probability of them being shot if cops weren't so trigger happy.
