Yeah... "trickle down" economics has been failing and even reversing since the 1970's (thank you Reagan). ...and it just keeps getting worse. Empirical evidence of wealth getting overly concentrated in the US economy keeps piling up.

What's funny is that a most of the "Essential" libertarian economic works were written during or before the 1970's. I read many of them in high school and undergrad, and still see libertarians cite them like they are gospel. Most of them were a bit dated on their theory even when written, but the last ~50 or so years of empirical data has really sealed the fact that they were just flat wrong. Most academic economists know this, but a lot of ideologs haven't gotten the memo and don't want to.

It's a long time since I read Marx but I thought that the industrialised proletariat, gathered together in large workplaces and trained, ironically, by the demands of capitalism to work together, had something to do with the overthrow of the capitalist system.

That's silly. OBVIOUSLY Capitalism will last until Kamilah Hauptmann is ready to pull the trigger on the revolution!

I'll take it! Hell.. I'd take most of the members here over who is currently running the USA. I confess to not knowing a lot about current Canadian leadership but there is a good chance Innula would do better than them too.
There's a lot of members here I wouldn't put in charge of a lemonade stand.

And my position on the Canadian PM is S+ Tier foreign policy and C- domestic.

Meet the man whose groundbreaking book is being devoured by the left

I've just started reading this. Not sure what I make of it yet, but it's certainly very interesting. I think he's onto something with his account of the way participation in community organisation, be it political parties, trades unions, social clubs or social interest groups, has declined over the last 100 years, leaving us with a flattened, hyper-active, online form of social organisation. More when I've read more but, as I tried to suggest with my remark above about Capital and the organised proletariat, I think that contemporary Marxists (or, rather, people quoting what they think Marx said) need to revise their ideas somewhat, since the organised revolutionary proletariat has pretty much disappeared in advanced capitalist economies.

Nobody knows if he's giving us the middle finger in this photo or not.

Essentially the New Deal was Capitalists negotiating with Socialists to save Capitalism from Revolution. It worked too and improved things for everyone. We need more of that.

As an aside, I earned Ferengi ship in Star Trek Online that I named "Eugene Debs".
Yeah, the New Deal was a big mixture of essential reforms and what we could generously call "experiments." I think it was overall very well intended than some very blatantly racist programs.

We certainly do really need a new FDR who will benefit from almost another century of economics research since that time. I'm not extremely optimistic since I'm not sure any of the prominent democrats right now are well positioned to do this. I think AOC would if she could, but we'll see what happens in reality.

Worry not, they have perfect recoil control in robot guns now so it’ll look like this:
