Good article. And yes, superficially "Constructive dialogue" is great for perpetrators. Imagine someone breaks into your house, and the police have the attitude that you two need to negotiate and come to a neutral position.

I also get the feeling from what I've read that Germany is very troubled on this issue since they are both very scared to go against Israel but also many Germans know Israel is wrong right now.

Having seen Germany's disgusting stance on the subjects of reparations to Greece and paying back the loan they forced Greece to issue to them during the time they occupied it (and killed well upwards of 700 thousand people* through starvation, death camps, and outright destructions of villages with brutal killings and rapes of every civilian, including babies and pregnant women - German "culture"), I'm no longer buying their narrative that they feel any kind of "guilt" or remorse. And don't get me started on their rabid, racist "punish the lazy Greeks" policy they so eagerly adopted when Schäuble (CDU) and the nutjobs of the FDP employed the appropriate dog whistles.

* This is the heaviest proportional death toll of any country that was occupied by the Axis in Europe.

There is a very strong Jewish lobby in Germany, which always crys antisemitism when German politicians are doing something they disapprove. It's influential, but still not so much like AIPAC.

It's name is Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland (ZdJ), or Central Council of Jews in Germany in English. The ZdJ represents about 90.000 Jews in Germany. It considers itself as canary in case of grewing Antisemitism.

First German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer told in an interview in 1965 this: "The power of the Jews, especially in America, cannot be neglected. This is why I always tried to achieve reconciliation between the German and the Jewish people." Some historians nowadays see this quote as prejudice and antisemitic slur.

When talking about Palestine and Israel, most Germans side with Palestine. 54% of all Germans want to recognize Palestine as own sovereign state.

78% of the Germans also want that Israel gets criticised when violating human rights without double standards. 66% want a weapon export stop to Israel. And so on...

That's why I stopped buying the German bullshit that they're feeling any "remorse" for the Holocaust. Their support for Israel merely tells me they found in it a way to continue carrying that ideology vicariously and, even more disgustingly, present it as virtue.

Reminds me of soldiers blaming "jealousy" for a big spike in Anti-American sentiment during the Iraq Invasion. I think the exact words used by a soldier I was talking to about this was "Comes with being top dog."

It was in "self-defence". "They were targeting terrorists in the building." The New York Times did a deep dive into Israel’s participation in Eurovision, which is wildly unpopular with European countries. Unsurprisingly, they found voting irregularities and a propaganda campaign.


Israel won the Eurovision popular vote in 2025 in countries where polls show it is deeply unpopular — and a New York Times analysis of voting data found that only a few hundred people voting repeatedly could have tipped those results, the paper reported Monday in a major investigation.

Financial records show Israel spent over $1 million on Eurovision influence campaigns since 2018, including funds explicitly allocated for “vote promotion” from Netanyahu’s hasbara — overseas propaganda — office.

In 2025, Netanyahu personally urged fans to vote for Israel’s contestant 20 times. Eurovision’s director told the NYT Israel’s campaign was “disproportionate” but insisted it did not affect results.

Eurovision’s own lawyers privately concluded the contest could legally exclude Israel. Instead, organizers kept Israel in without ever holding a direct vote.

Five countries — Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain, and Slovenia — are boycotting this year’s contest in Vienna, which opens Tuesday.

Microsoft ordered the inquiry last year in response to a Guardian investigation revealing the military had used the company’s technology to operate a powerful surveillance system that collected Palestinian civilian phone calls on a mass scale.

Microsoft has previously said its senior executives such as Nadella were unaware Unit 8200 was using Azure to store intercepted Palestinian communications. The company’s vice-chair and president, Brad Smith, said last year: “We do not provide technology to facilitate mass surveillance of civilians.”
