    Blender news

(honestly I can never go back to a world without geometry nodes)

Would a Second Life-type virtual world set in space be redundant?

Can avatar-bound scripts set the rotation (turn) your avatar yet or is that still reserved for RLV calls for some reason? Only reason I ever used it because of that lack of ability

Update on the new mobile viewer.

Older Zoomers, who will be 30 in only 2 or 3 years, have their own kids and their own houses, are the age group that Linden Lab mainly needs to attract if they are to survive. They are known, among many other things, for simply not having personal computers compared to other generations. Modern...

Update on the new mobile viewer.

Linden Lab doesn't often impress me. They did a very impressive job with the mobile viewer, though. I expected them to just throw cloud streaming at it and make you pay a subscription, but they actually got it running locally on mobile, which while I knew it could be done, is not what I expected...

    Bluesky

Some perspective: Bluesky currently has 150% more users than Twitter had when I signed up for Twitter in 2009, and Bluesky has been around 1 year less than Twitter was at that point.

John Carmack is apparently grumpy about the state of the metaverse

Turns out this isn't even real technology. they just made an animation. It's entirely fake.

Meta is (is? will be) launching the Avatars Store

So I was actually using Gravatars recently for an argument. I think the internet's use of 2D avatars shows the desire path for 3D avatars. And where are we currently with 2D avatars? Everyone has a .png that sits on their harddrive, and they upload it manually to any service that allows them...

    Why not modify?

Oh as long as the objects are mod, I honestly don't care if the scripts are no mod. I'm able to delete them, link the objects to the one single object that is the amalgamation of my entire avatar on a single rigged attachment, and incorporate their functionality into my One True Script.

    Why not modify?

I'm not so sure. That's like saying "There's a market for games sold with DRM" - well, no, there isn't, it's just if the majority of creators decide to force something your choice in the matter is removed. Going elsewhere is only for the most convicted when they must settle with their very small...

    Why not modify?

It's not just that: Modify rights don't even *help* the content be stolen. It's 100% irrelevant. It just makes zero difference whatsoever. Ripping tools are not coded to care about a checkbox. Why would they be? These people think it enables some DRM or code obfusication, or, something, that...

    We Met in Virtual Reality

Watched it with a group of people in VRChat expecting it to be super cringy. We were all actually floored at how wholesome it all was.

    Stray

It's very much a super casual game made for people who don't play videogames. It's very linear, and about 6 hours long. Gameplay includes: -Just cute cat sequences -Linear paths though visual storytelling -two open world areas between the linear paths where you'll do some "find items and give...
