Pull off what? Providing practical information instead of trying to play oppression olympics? The availability of meds and food has nothing to do with whether or not we go into a semi-lockdown mode to keep the virus from spreading, and I’m telling you from experiences that if shortages do occur you want the distribution of available supplies to happen in an orderly, safe atmosphere and not leave people to their own devices. My meds aren’t going to magically appear anymore than anyone else’s but giving other people irrational fears over something that may need to happen is selfish and unnecessary.
Bullshit.
Unless you have a lot of free space you can not store a lot of supplies for the length of time being talked about. Because of our asinine laws about some meds you may not be able to stock up on those either.

Unbelievable. Like we could trust Trump to put everything under martial law, meanwhile making him president for life and stuff.
Beau talks about the mathematics of martial law. Basically, the US Army is not big enough to occupy the USA, so coast-to-coast martial law probably can't happen.

For what it's worth, here's the British government's current advice on self-isolating, intended for

It accepts that not everyone is in a position to avoid all contact with the rest of humanity for seven or fourteen days, and offers what seems to me realistic advice

This only works if you live in a residence you control.

I can’t do anything about other people’s guests and medical visitors and a household with a worker here can’t do anything about that.

I don’t have a regular fridge in the room, so I can’t even completely avoid the shared kitchen.

What is the UK advice for people in shared housing or shelters?

one reason not to trust his judgement :kittyball:

he played Macavity in the 2019 abomination
On no....no, I know that Idris Elba played in Cats.

But....it's freaking Idris Elba!!! The guy from Buffalo Soldiers. American Gangster. Pacific Rim. Like a half dozen Marvel movies. And now that's what the NYP is gonna call him? 'Cats' actor Idris Elba?

I mean.....who the hell ever says " 'Wayne's World 2' actor Charlton Heston"?

Or " 'Battleship' actor Liam Neeson"?

" 'Nim's Island' actress Jodie Foster"?

" 'Inspector Gadget' actor Matthew Broderick"?

" 'Encino Man' actor Brendan Fraser"?

Or how about Sharon Stone, well known for her role in 'Catwoman'!

This one goes in the "maybe" column, because the cause isn't yet known, but it could be highly important: a company that makes "smart" thermometers has detected an anomalous spike in what it asserts is non-flu-related fevers across most of the state of Florida, which may indicate that the novel coronavirus is more prevalent there than is currently reported
People taking their own temperature, when in the absense of pandemic, even if they have symptoms, they wouldn't bother? These are people who bought a "smart thermometer", after all.

I'm taking my temperature twice per day.

First of all, in emergencies you make space when you have to. An extra week or two of emergency food does not require a bank vault. But, once more, no one is suggesting that people aren’t going to be allowed out to get necessary items at regular intervals so all this drama about it is pretty much just choosing to be angry at a made-up problem.

The company has been selling them and tracking the data for three years, so it's not a matter of people just suddenly using the thing and creating a glut of new data.

And besides, the anomalously-high number of fevers seem to be particular to Florida, and across even not-particularly-urban areas.

We discussed this in a preparation thread not too long ago. Anyone re-read any of that recently?

I eat at least one meal a day that is basically a DIY soylent. Protein powder, oat flour, oat bran, water, nutrients, multivitamin. Fats eaten separately, from a spoon. None of it requires refrigeration. I have enough to last a couple months as my sole food source, if I needed to. Wouldn't be fancy eating but I wouldn't starve. And it's something I could prepare in my own room. Still orderable from Amazon. The quality of ingredients available locally on EBT may not be as good.

In a hopeful sign, one person in Japan, which had a run on toilet paper about a week before the USA did, is reporting that there is so much toilet paper that nobody is buying it anymore.
Once all the panicky people have stocked up, they won't need to buy more for months. So now that the system has responded to the panic by increasing production, there will be a surplus.

No one has disagreed with this. But insisting people already have resources they don’t comes off simply as scolding.
Unless it’s some other muppet I have on ignore, no one is saying people have resources they don’t have.

“Irrational fear”

The Justice Department has quietly asked Congress for the ability to ask chief judges to detain people indefinitely without trial during emergencies

This is exactly what someone at risk for nutritional deficiencies shouldn’t do, they need real food for bioavailability.

But. I can see nothing I can say will put a dent in the scolding.

I don’t think reminding people some of us live in shared housing is being an asshole. What the fuck is wrong with you?
No one is saying people don’t live in shared spaces. Stop trying to make neutral information fit into your persecution complexes.

They’re saying they can store food.

That requires money and space. I can only store about a week in my own room.

Sorry, I wasn't scolding, or disagreeing with anything you've said in this thread. I was trying to be helpful.

But for nutrition, the real soylent is supposed to be nutritionally complete, and when I make my own I add things like potassium and calcium and some other stuff. And I still wouldn't recommend eating it as your sole food source unless you needed to.

Thank you. I’m sorry, it’s just the lack of empathy I’ve been seeing this week has got me on edge. I’m not mad at you and I apologize.

I don’t think I could live on something like this, but it might help someone. I’m trying to keep up my intake of vegetables and Vitamins D and C.

Setting aside that you can get two weeks worth of food for about $25 and store it in a very small amount of space (I do it every year), no one is suggesting anyone go more than a week without a way to get supplies. That isn’t even the case in countries with far less liberty than ours. It’s not the way it’s ever been done here following disasters. If the whole point is to help keep things orderly no one is going to suggest rules that incentivize people to break them. No one’s judging you or Spirits for living in small spaces or wanting to be sure you are able to get supplies. This has been said multiple times now, so as far as I can tell you just want to be upset at something.
