German vaccine company will not be sold to the USA
The Tübingen-based company CureVac, which is working on a coronavirus vaccine, will not be sold to the USA, said Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU) on ARD television. It was "a great decision" by the company management. He said that her decision to offer a possible vaccine worldwide was a clear statement on how this was sensible and appropriate in the face of such a crisis. "Germany is not for sale", Altmaier said.
The billionaire Dietmar Hopp is the main owner of the Tübingen-based company. The second largest shareholder is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which works with CureVac to develop vaccines against a number of infectious diseases. In his rejection on Sunday evening, Hopp indirectly referred to the US President as lacking solidarity: "If we hopefully soon succeed in developing an effective vaccine against the corona virus, it will be possible to reach, protect and help people not only on a regional level but also around the world in a spirit of solidarity," said Hopp.
