At the moment I'm trying to see how good or bad my classic skin looks as a BOM layer on a Geralt head demo. (I will also be exploring other options , I just want to try this first)

I have BOM enabled. How do I hide the default Geralt hair? ( Applier or ... ?

thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by default hair?

You CAN use an applier for make up and certain other layers when you have BOM enabled, but I'm just a little confused. I didn't think any mesh heads had default hair. They might come with default skins, which you can use or not use, but not hair as far as I know. Maybe it's different for some male mesh heads, though. If you could link a screenshot, so I can see what you're referring to, that would help. :)

I don't have a Signature head but if there is a hairbase showing, there ought to be a button on the hud somewhere to clear applier layers. Unless the hairbase is a BOM tattoo layer in which case you can remove it the same way as you did before mesh.

As for old bom skins on mesh heads, they can work. Mine is 9 years old and it looks so much better on my Lelutka head and Gianni body than it ever did on the classic avatar.

The grey is my old skin layer
If you're wearing a mesh head and you have BOM enabled on the head, you shouldn't be wearing a head alpha. Just one for the eyes. Bakes On Mesh doesn't require alpha layers since it paints directly onto the mesh.

When you wear one of the old skins, they were made in just one layer which covers your entire body. So anything on top of that would have to be a tattoo layer of some sort. With the new BOM skins, you can buy a body skin separate from a head skin, so a head skin *could* be a tattoo layer, itself, rather than a full body/head skin. You can add...I'm not sure how many...a lot...of tattoo layers on top of each other to come up with very unique combinations, but they can also cover something else you're wearing.

So, what that means is that if you're wearing an old classic skin, AND you have BOM enabled (without a body nor head alpha layer), anything else you're seeing would be a tattoo layer (and would show up under current outfit) or painted/baked onto that skin.

I hope I'm making sense. :)

Hi Lewis!

Some in the in-world Signature group told me it's accessible by clicking the checkerboard icon. I may be going blind cause I see no checkerboard icon ;-(

Ah, yes. It may also be an applier hairbase. In which case, the HUD should have somewhere to clear that layer. I don't know anyone who has a Signature head to ask, though. My partner has a Signature body, but a Catwa head.

the manual says:

the manual says "How do i do if i want my head bald or shaved ?
1. Wear the main head HUD > Options page
2. in the bottom left "LAYER UTILS"
3. Click RESET TEXTURES button and select which layer you want to clear

but the "options icon " on the demo HUD doesn't list Layer UTILIt lists Appearence ...Where is this Options *PAGE* ?

I'm starting to wonder if you don't get an OPTIONS page with the demo?

Heres the HUD. The OPTIONS gear is below the ANIMS in the upper left, but that isn't the page the Manual is referring too. Maybe this option is burried somewhere in the folder in Inventory?

ETA : I thought I sent a photo but it didn't come through I'm frustrated and don't want to go back in world to retake the phot. If anyone wants to see a pic of the HUD I'll happily retake it tomorrow . . . just not now ;)

There is a "fix avatar" option ; that wouldn't be it, would it?

Is there a standard version of the head and a BOM version maybe?

One head. with BOM activator.

My understanding is that the paid for version of the HUD is one integrated HUD with a BOM activator located on a options "page" (from the manual). I guess that implies that the paid for HUD has multiple pages.

The demo version comes with a separate BOM activator HUD along with a small Head HUD.

Hmm . . . now that I re-read what I've typed, it seems obvious that the "options page" on the paid for HUD undoubtedly contains several options not available on the demo version. I think I should quote Gilda Radner's old lady here:

"Never mind"

Good news that embarrasses me ;) I have a sort of learning disability. I don't scan well and tend to miss details unless I slow down and take a deliberately extra careful look around. I know myself I should have taken this extra slow extra careful look days ago. I finally did.

There is no checkerboard icon and there is nothing labeled as an options page however, under the" Layers UTtes there are 2 buttons to hide Eyes or Ears and u under that there are 2 little buttons that are so small and fuzzy on my small 12 inch (39 cm) screen that I can't read the words, but 1 of them probably says RESET TEXTURES.

Now I'll see if I can find a magnifying glass in RL
Geesh!

OK so I seem to have applied a bald cap. It covers the Sig hair but it also covers most of my forehead and covers the old skin hair on the side of my head so my old side hair and most of my wrinkles are covered up. Hopefully there is a way to tweak that. Next I think it's time to replace my old skin with Signature Geralt BOM skin and see how that looks. That should be easy; a piece of cake!

Success!

I swear the last time I clicked on the default Geralt hair base in the inventory; I'm sure the "delete" option was greyed out and non-functional. I did try to delete the hair base but it didn't work. Today I tried a Sig Geralt BOM skin and noticed the delete was again functional, so I switched back to my old skin and the Geralt hairbase was gone and I have my old skin & hair BOM over Geralt head back! It needs some tweaking (the shape needs to be modified) but I think it will look good with a bitt of tweaking.

:)

So, between getting frustrated and dealing with ongoing dental issues I took a break on this, but it's time to try again.

My traditional BOM skin is fairly light, but I did something that covered most of me in orange, with patches of my underlying BOM skin showing through. Any idea of what I did?

thanks

Make sure that you're not wearing any alpha layers for anything else -check your "worn" tab and take off any that you see.
