Really, any modern CPU in the i7 class, from less than a few years ago should do just fine. I'm running it just fine on a old i9-9900k. Memory wise I would say 16 to 32GB will do, an that is probably over kill. You graphics card is what you need. I'm running it on a 4070 in 4k and I have no issues at all with it.

A couple of years ago I bought an HP Victus desktop for approximately $500. An i7 is good but I have an i3 and so far it's worked ok for me.

The trick, in my mind, would be getting a video card that will stay current for the near future. Something nvidia, try to get a card with 8 to 12 gigabytes of ram is possible -though mine has 4 gigabytes and seems to work ok so far.

Honestly, if I was buying a new computer I'd probably get this:

It's close to what I already have, but with a better cpu (i5 instead of i3) and better video card (8gb nvidia).

Looking for something else though -I'd avoid AMD. My personal bias is to stick with intel processors and nvidia cards though that's not strictly necessary for just SL.

I am very happy that I went with an AM5 processor given the failure rate of the 13/14 generation Intel CPUs.

I would look for a midrange CPU from either religion, an Nvidia RTX 4060 or better (I have an RTX 4060ti) and DDR5 RAM. Get at least 16GB, although with most using 16GB modules you don't get the benefit of dual channel with under 32GB.

If you are near a Microcenter look at their house brand (Powerspec). They use good parts and in the first year have a 24 hour service guarantee.

My i3 is a 13th generation and it's just fine -roomie's is an i7 and it falls over a lot; so point taken.
