Exponential growth.
Coronavirus death toll in UK doubles in 24 hours
Coronavirus death toll in UK doubles in 24 hours
I live in a major city and have been sent home for 3 weeks .. not that I can buy anything as ppl panic bought things. My brother works in a major lumber store [still working as of today]. I have yet to talk to my sister but she works at one of the private medical places working on a test and has a HS kid.I got an email from my local supermarket explaining that delivery guys could no longer come inside the house, and asking me to keep two metres away from him. I would no longer have to sign his screen, he will do that. Delivery arrived two hours later, the delivery guy didn't seem to have had the memo, asked us to sign the screen etc.
This morning royal mail delivery guy put my parcel on the wet front door step and ran to the gate when I opened the door. He said he has to sign for my parcel, once establishing that I am happy with it. Amazon guy did the same.
Locally, people still seem to be attending events, planning events, proceeding as normal. It's weird. Meanwhile the supermarket has no loo roll, pasta, rice, cleaning products, paracetamol, and they're rationing tins. But the local corner shop had loo roll, disinfectant, paracetamol, and spray cleaner. So people are preparing, but meanwhile the local facebook group is posting a lot of very angry things about people stockpiling things, and talking about an overreaction.
How they feel this evening, now that Spain has announced a lockdown on Monday, and Norway, and Ireland has locked down, and we are looking like idiots for carrying on carrying on I don't know.
One of my facebook friends works for the local health authority and said that there is no noticeable increase in people needing ITU beds in Lincolnshire, and sounded as though he thought I was overreacting, telling people to keep away from groups of people etc. Meanwhile the deaths in the UK doubled today.
We are now joining the #StaythefuckAtHome group, except for my daughter's boyfriend who is still going to work. I'm hoping that the hotel he works at will decide to shut down once people are no longer socialising, but at present socialisation continues unabated in Lincoln. The fools believe that the Government will tell them what they need to do in order to keep safe, and if they haven't told them to stop, they won't.
I’ve had a compromised immune system for most of my life. I‘m not sure if this will help anyone, but here’s now I’ve always dealt with this. I keep a small table beside the front door. When I’m expecting a delivery, I notify the delivery person that the front door is unlocked and to please leave the items on the table. If they require a signature, I leave a note of acknowledgement on the table. This works in 99% of cases.I got an email from my local supermarket explaining that delivery guys could no longer come inside the house, and asking me to keep two metres away from him.
Verily is owned by Alphabet, which also owns Google. They are all part of the same company. Google's founders realized that the online advertising business could go down the tubes, like if everybody got ad-blockers like I have. So they have been pursuing all kinds of other businesses as a back up plan. Verily is one of them. They tried to get into the wired ISP business, but that was hard going. So instead they bought 5% of SpaceX with their satellite internet network. Internet service is a steady revenue producer. Also, the big orange one was only able to remember the name Google, so that's what he said at the presser yesterday. The company is actually Verily, and they are planning to roll out "something" on Monday but won't give more details. They say that yes, they have worked somewhat with Google on this, lol.
We know the number of people who die from the flu because they typically end up in hospitals, where it gets tracked. The number of people who contract milder cases of the flu is estimated from doctors reporting to health services. You know how they’re saying that since not everyone have been/can be tested, the actual percentage of people dying or being severely affected is lower, which makes sense, how do we know what actual percentage of people die from seasonal flu? Could that also be lower?
...Aaaand the rest of the world starts using VPN servers in Italy to get free porn.![]()
Pornhub offers free premium service in Italy to ease coronavirus pains
When in Rome? Italians can receive free premium porn content from a giant hub for Internet smut after Pornhub announced they will open their vaults of videos to the entire country. The adult websit…nypost.com
In my experience selling things PG and not PG in SL, I've found that horniness tends to dip IQs below the threshold it takes to set up a VPN. Their business model seems firm....Aaaand the rest of the world starts using VPN servers in Italy to get free porn.
I understand this. I was just wondering about the many who do not seek medical attention and how that can affect percentage. I’m sure I must have caught the flu in my life, but I’ve never once in my life gone to a clinic/hospital about symptoms despite there being no fees.We know the number of people who die from the flu because they typically end up in hospitals, where it gets tracked. The number of people who contract milder cases of the flu is estimated from doctors reporting to health services.
I'm off to buy some Guillotine futures.
Still a smack tho.In line with the advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I, as NTNU’s Rector, strongly recommend that all NTNU students who are outside Norway return home. This applies especially if you are staying in a country with poorly developed health services. This also applies for countries with poorly developed collective infrastructure, for example the USA. The same applies if you do not have health insurance.
There seems to be a divide in the country between those who are scared shitless and hunkering down in their homes trying to flatten the curve, and numbskulls out partying. Why outbreaks like coronavirus spread exponentially, and how to “flatten the curve”
Really interesting simulations of how various strategies for quarantine and social distancing affect the spread of a virus, and how the various strategies flatten the curve.
I started this thread 7 weeks ago. 7 weeks. Let's see where we are 7 weeks from now.Jan 23, 2020
Death toll up to 17 (I heard 19 on NPR this morning), so I think this topic warrants a thread of its own.
Washington Post: Chinese cities cancel New Year celebrations, travel ban widens in effort to stop coronavirus outbreak
How to pass the time ... answer and mock them. And in the midst of all this, I can still laugh. Today I received the single most hopelessly, globally doomed spam phone call I can imagine:
"Hello! You may have won a FREE CARNIVAL CRUISE!"
