So it it going to be like the Zion Chickens with the food .... will you have to buy diapers and formula ?

And a new entrepreneur possibility ... Day Care for the "babies" for those busy "Mothers" working the stripper poles and escorting.

It could be the next thing in AFK tipping. AFK day--care workers to watch over the babbies while mommy is AFK sexxing.

That's a good question; but prim babies (just not animesh ones) have already existed for quite a while. There definitely IS a lucrative market - there's baby furniture and clothes and stuff you can buy for them, lots and lots of it, and people who want this kind of RP tend to go all-in on it. I don't think you have to continuously buy supplies for these babies; like I think you have to have a bottle, and feed them every so often, but I don't think you have to buy refills or anything like that - but I could be mistaken; I'm going after what I saw a prim-baby-haver who lived on an adjacent plot from me a few years ago was doing, and things may have changed since then.

Think of prim babies as like modern-day tamagotchis. I suppose for people who cannot have RL children for whatever reason, the RP helps satisfy some emotional wants and needs that they can't satisfy in RL, just like well any RP really.

The babies have the option to 'play the game' so to speak; you can buy the accessories to feed, diaper and play with the baby.

If you do all those things you get rewarded with points or credits (can't remember what it's called) which can be redeemed for additional toys and items. But you don't have to do those things to keep the baby 'alive and well' like some other SL pets. If you leave it in your inventory it won't starve or get sick, it's just there till you take it out again.

The designer Carrie Tatsu addressed that in a YouTube video, I liked what she said. I'm paraphrasing but basically, 'we didn't want to make a system that punishes you for not interacting with the baby. If you do you get rewards, if you don't there's no punishment (like having to buy medicine to make it well again). A good policy I think.

On a personal note, I have never understood all the disdain that's always been aimed at virtual babies. (I mean in general I'm not directing this at anyone in this thread). To me they're like any other virtual 'pet'. People are into Meeroos and Kitty Cats and all kinds of virtual pets and for the most they seem to be considered cute and perfectly acceptable. Why are the human babies any different? It's just another kind of virtual pet that people have and enjoy for all sorts of reasons. I've never understood that. 🤷‍♀️

I know a few people who are heavily into SL babies and some of them are because they never had the chance to have children in RL. It may look silly to others and playing with what is essentially digital dolls is probably a poor substitute for the real thing. But can still be better than nothing and for that reason I think this is one of the most valuable aspects of SL and something we shouldn't make too much fun of.

For me the difference is that I've never seen people in SL act as if their Meeroos, Kitty Cats, other animals, are real but I HAVE seen people act like their SL babies are real. I've seen them yell & scream at other people that aren't into their prim babies & don't get all excited over them. In the club I work at we have rules about turning off those horrible talking tummies & no child avatars or prim babies out - just like you wouldn't have those around a real adult dance club. As the host when i've sent a polite IM to people asking them to please turn off their talking tummies or put away their SL babies I've had them yell at me in Ims & local both that I must hate children & that the club is anti-family. Some of them go absolutely nuts if you don't want to be involved in their baby RP. i've never seen someone do that over the SL pets.

Yah I've seen that too. SMH.

What I mean though, is how people seem to have an immediate visceral negative reaction. For example, I mentioned in open chat at my club that the animesh babies were being released. I was talking about the tech aspect, the scripting and how long she'd been working on them...etc. The reaction of 90% of the people there (at the time there were 35-40 ladies present) was negative. "Ugh those things are creepy/gross/too uncanny valley..." and such. And it seems like that whenever they're brought up.

I have no desire for one personally, this is just my observation. I've always wondered over the years why so many people react negatively to them.

I don't care now that talking abdomens have died out. "Mommy needs to piss herself!"
You would think. But they have not. Recently, when Blueberry had their sale and everyone was clawing & scratching to get in, I bumped someone wearing one (and a pregnancy bump add-on to their mesh body). The tummy talker called me out, and then the virtual preggo called me everything but a child of God right there in local.

New SL babies just as creepy as the old SL babies. haha!
As long as nobody asks me to babysit them in SL, I'm totally on the whatever line of thinking.

I don't think there's really a satisfying answer to your musings. In the end I think it comes down to whether or not your uncanny valley response is triggered. For whatever reason, prim and mesh babies trigger a lot of people.

Personally speaking, having watched the video these new Zooby ones don't bother me in the slightest. In fact, I kind of want one just to see what can be done with them (I'm genuinely curious to find out if it would be possible to race them somehow). I can't say the same for earlier products, many of which I have found off-putting. I'm especially bothered by the Black Bantam ones, which for me are nightmare fuel. At the end of the day though, this is my personal view. I can't really explain why I respond like I do, just that I do.

I will say though, the 'Cat Life' Zooby cats are SUPER cute, omgah. Really the best quadruped mesh cat avatar on the market in my opinion. It's funny about that; the very things that make the cat so damn cute are probably the things that make the babies kind of creepy. I think they're cute though. :giggle:
