Heeeeeey guys guess what the newest $@%&ery is on our friend-site YouTube? That's right, it's people taking precious adorable little puppies and kittens and then purposely putting them into painful and life-threatening contrived circumstances so they can pretend to rescue them, for the views and that sweet, sweet Ad Revenue!

And this stuff is lucrative. The guys running these channels manage to find two or three kittens or puppies a week to rescue. Have your viewers noticed that you saved a puppy this week that has suspiciously identical markings to a puppy you rescued two weeks ago? No problem, just start multiple channels and hope nobody notices that your puppy on some kind of rescue-channel tour!

And there's trends! Did your recent video of saving a kitten that was wedged between a truck's tires really take off? Suddenly dozens of wedged-between-truck-tires kittens are being extracted all over YouTube for the next few weeks! Rescue a puppy from a constrictor snake? Suddenly there's a rash of snake-attacks on puppies sweeping the countryside!

Other competitor channels edging in on your viewcount? Just up the ante! Instead of rescuing kittens trapped in garbage piles, start rescuing them from burning garbage piles! Instead of saving puppies from boring constrictor attacks, start saving them from dramatic viper attacks! Will they die? Of course they will dummy; but if you take a video showing them happy and healthy before you stage the viper attack, you can post it a couple of weeks later as a follow-up showing that they've survived and recovered! It's so easy, anyone can do it!

Oh, and if your answer to "what is YouTube doing about this monetized animal cruelty?" is not a god damn thing then congratulations, you win the booby prize!

This particular YouTuber has been reporting on this situation for a bit but he's far from the only one. As he's noted, there have been channels like this for a couple of years, but within the last month or so there has been a sudden explosion of new channels making identical content, or old previously-different channels that have suddenly pivoted to this content because it is a proven money-maker. Both videos recommended:

The ad situation is way beyond ridiculous now.

YouTube apparently has NO system in place to vet ads. It's the problem I griped about way back when the PragerU "ads" were making the rounds - I don't know the exact process, but somehow or other creators are allowed to designate or submit certain videos as "ads" and YouTube never bothers to check them, so PragerU was able to push some videos as "ads" that weren't really ads, but just normal channel content in the form of quick-lectures, and this stuff would pre-roll on other people's videos. PragerU specifically has been stopped from doing this (I think); but YouTube didn't actually solve the larger problem, so channels are continuing to dishonestly push their content into the ad-delivery system as "ads" even when they're not. And it's not just couple-minute videos anymore. A couple of weeks ago I got a freaking 30+ minute "midroll ad" on a video that was only like 15 minutes long.

Understood, but greed has an infinite appetite in a finite world, and cares not for the commons.

The hot new trend on YouTube's worst cancer, AKA "family video channels", is "period pranks" where parents put fake blood on their like 7-year-old children's underwear and clothing and have them to pretend they're having "cramps" while the other parent pretends to be shocked and falling for it. Hilarious.

Oh these videos are fine according to YouTube by the way.
