oh man, that was an ugly situation. It should have occurred to him that the woman might have nothing to do with the scam callers and obviously he shouldn't have taken the law into his own hands. He was obviously in the wrong but I really hope they catch that scammer and charge them with whatever is appropriate. I feel like they should at least be guilty of felony murder or something similar.

It's WAY more common in a lot of rural areas than you might think. An ex of mine was given a shotgun when she was like 4.... and yes, she was raised very "country."
I got my first 410 shotgun when I was 6. Had birdshot in it, for when the copperheads would try to get into the yard and chicken coups. But I also had been taught never to point unless I was going to shoot, and if I forgot it was a good tanning with a holly switch.

Beyond tiresome.

Despite early pledges from Texas DPS Director Steve McCraw to publicly release evidence from the Uvalde massacre, his legal team has quietly worked for more than a year to keep it a state secret.

“I haven’t seen so many tentacles of delay which is what we’ve seen in every aspect of these cases,” said Laura Lee Prather, an attorney from Haynes Boone, in this week’s episode of Y’all-itics.

She represents 18 local and national news outlets – from CNN to Sinclair – that have sued to get the public records in the case. TEGNA, the parent company of WFAA, is a party to that lawsuit.
“Let me give you a flavor of what hasn’t come out. No videos. No dashcams. No 911 calls. No autopsy reports. No ballistic reports. No toxicology reports. No witness interviews. No use of force reports, and the list goes on, and on, and on,” Prather explained.

Small moments of good in amongst the vast, crappy world of gun violence.

Parkland school shooting survivor gains rights to gunman’s name in unique civil settlement
A survivor of the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, now owns the rights to the gunman’s name, according to a new settlement agreement that also stipulates the shooter must donate his brain for scientific study.

As part of the settlement, the shooter agreed to transfer the rights to his name, Nikolas Cruz, for use in any production, movie, book, television, cable TV, or other media. The gunman, who is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole, is barred from giving any interviews without the express written consent of shooting survivor Anthony Borges, according to the settlement.

Apparently, there was just a shooting at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania.

Donald Trump was whisked off the stage at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania after loud noises rang through the crowd. His motorcade has left the venue.

Oh geez, perfect weekend for this news to hit.

Ammo vending machines are coming to 3 Southern states. See how they work
Vending machines selling ammunition will now be in grocery stores in Alabama, Texas and Oklahoma. According to the American Rounds' website, the distributor of the machines, AI technology scans the customers’ identification and facial recognition software to verify a customer’s identity.
Oh, they use AI for customer screening. I'm sure that will work out great.
