I spent the last 8 hours fixing our systems and getting them running again. All from a mal formed update file that crashed the CrowdStrike stack before the network stack could load.

Easy for us, since I can physically get to every machine easily. For the corporations that have no local I.T., everything is remote, they are screwed and why there are so many outages.

Is familiar though, since every antivirus/end protection system has caused mass outages at least once. But most of them were before Covid and all remote I.T. staff.

I got a thirty-minute break from work today because of this.

Reminds me of this one time, my first job was at a mall food court restaurant and on this particular day I was super late getting to work, like late enough to be nervous that I'd get in serious trouble, but when I got there the parking lot was dead empty, and I found out the whole mall including my place was closed due to a several-hours-long power outage that still hadn't been resolved yet. The universe was on my side that day!

I would've known before I left, if I ever checked my voicemail...

Turns out, we don't use Crowdstrike, so we were largely unaffected. Just couldn't set up any new computers on Intune because of Microsoft issues. I also couldn't get into Azure.

If you are using Bitlocker, if you do a safe boot into NETWORK mode, that will allow you to get to the cmd prompt to remove the file.

Are there major software packages that are really good?

The only tools I know of that are truly elegant and wonderful are small in scale. ...like the bot I made to click around randomly in my work window to make it look like I'm not AFK, lol.
