Most recent episode of John Oliver's Last Week Tonight was also about Boeing. Can only find an article about an ad John Oliver showed on the episode, not episode itself. And that ad won't play in my country.

Strange collection of countries that video is allowed in (the grey ones)

A former Boeing employee known for raising concerns about the firm's production standards has been found dead in the US.
John Barnett had worked for Boeing for 32 years, until his retirement in 2017.
In the days before his death, he had been giving evidence in a whistleblower lawsuit against the company.
Boeing said it was saddened to hear of Mr Barnett's passing. The Charleston County coroner confirmed his death to the BBC on Monday.

It said the 62-year-old had died from a "self-inflicted" wound on 9 March and police were investigating.
Hrm.

How many car accidents have there been worldwide already with your specific type of car?
The answer is: an awful lot, for every type of car.
And we all still happily drive with them.
Flying is safer.
Even with the Boeing MAX.

I've decided not to fly anymore years ago. Not because of safety, flying is the safest way of transportation, but because of the environmental impact of flying.

Well, yes, but - I am much more likely to walk away from a car crash than I am a plane crash.

Maybe travelling across the Atlantic or Pacific oceans is not one of your destinations but I doubt that ships are much more environmentally friendly. I haven't read any statistics about that though.

Of course the decision not to fly anymore can limit my travels.
But every destination in Western Europe can easily be reached by car or train or a combination of those two.
If I ever might want to visit the USA again I will fly, I guess.

But I can live with the fact that I will never see Death Valley, The Rocky Mountains, The Grand Canyon, The Niagara Falls and all the other highlights at your side of the pond with my own eyes.

Amazing how many whistleblowers die from self inflicted gunshots...

He makes a few valid points about how suspicious some suicides are, but then meanders and wrecks his credibility on other nonsensical conspiracy theories like claiming the first lady of France is trans... That's a common them among conspiracy nuts, they have 100% confirmation bias. If they find a scrap of evidence on something, they feel vindicated about EVERYTHING.

Juan covers the seat situation here:

It seems there's a switch on the back of the pilots' seats, underneath a plastic cover, that's used to motor the seats backwards and forwards so pilots can get into them. If the switch or its cover is broken or comes loose, and the airline never fixes it, it's possible for the switch cover to get wedged in a way that the switch can be depressed by someone just pushing down on the closed plastic cover.

Before anybody descends too far into some Boeing-fueled rabbit hole, you should know that in these parts allegations about Boeing doing Something Bad are currently selling for less than a dime a dozen and are available 24/7. That has been true for as long as I have been here. One of Boeing's nicknames I learned when I came here some 25 years ago is "The Lazy B."

It's not what you'd call the highest morale workplace in the land. It's also not where you'd go to top off your mental health tank.
