What Is the Worst Movie You’ve Seen Recently?

I just watched “2012”.

Didn’t see it when it first came out but thought, why not, it’ll probably be full of tropes and over the top but a fun popcorn movie nonetheless.

OMG what the ever fuck? I was expecting tropes but not the overt sexism. All the women were stereotypical wives, daughters, or love interests of the hero, scientists, and politicians/decision makers.

And I kid you not, the ex-husband turned hero watches the new husband die an excruciating, painful death and then necks with his ex afterwards.

Over the top? It was never ending. There was still 10 minutes left (over 2 and a half hours) and I just couldn’t bear it any longer so I turned it off and made up my own ending - the earth blew up and the rest of the universe cheered.

Also, the leaders of the world wait for instructions on a “Zoom” call from the US president to direct them in there quest to reach the arks hidden in China.

Oh I’m sorry, were those spoilers for those who may have not seen it? Good! Then there is less chance that you will watch it.

I haven’t been this angry about a move in a long while.

TL;DR

What movie do you still regret having seen?

Movie seen recently? That I regret watching? I saw "Team America: World Police" for the first time recently. I forget when, but I watched it at some point after COVID started. I knew it was supposed to be over the top, a parody, and involved puppets but . . ..

Non-movie: I've been watching CHiPs, the tv series from late '70s, early '80s. The episodes have been a diverting way to pass the time. Occasionally, though, the camera turns and follows someone or some people outside the main cast. And, I believe, many of these were supposed to be Pilots for spin-offs that never got made. And those episodes tend to be awful. 1 star out of 10 awful (I've started rating things out of 10 since that's the rating system on IMDB).

One involved "Special Forces Ninjas" and . . . gah that was hard to watch. The main character was an over the top asshole, and the rest were actually better, but had annoying traits.

Another involved two women who rose from motorcycle cops to detectives. As far as fictional "hero cops" go, these were the worst I've seen. One steals a car to chase after a bad guy (the other one had leapt on top of the car and was dangling on the roof, only able to stay on because there was an open sunroof she could . . . pretend to be holding on to. Massive crashes occur, many become injured. The end of the chase involves one of the cops getting out of the stolen car, and just walk away. Paying no attention to any of the injured. She does pause to check on her possibly injured partner, but after that pause, both just walked away. Spent zero time trying to help the people injured. Also, if I recall correctly, they just gave up chasing the bad guy. Also, at no point were they in communication with anyone who they are supposedly working with (you know, other police).

"Up!" by Russ Meyer from 1976. It's just trashy beyond belief, has no real plot and just left me with a big WTF? scratching my head why some people really think that this is worth having a cult following.

I don't watch that many movies. I walked out on both Gravity and Interstellar, but that was several years ago.

Oh, I know...

There was something I recently sat through that involved a military public relations guy getting turned into a supersoldier through a groundhog day loop during an alien invasion that was pretty awful. I don't remember what it was called though.

It is very seldom that I watch a movie too.
They have such predictable story lines. Half an hour into the movie the plot is totally clear most of the time.
Only thing left then is sit it out to see that you're right with your assumptions.

I don't waist my time or money on that.

"The King of Comedy" with Stephen Chow. I had heard so many good things about it that I finally decided to watch it. It was full of awful tropes, blatant sexism, and even includes Chow playing with a small child's penis. At the end it begins to meander worse than ever and becomes even more inane and pointless, and then it just suddenly ends. I have to admit, though, the world would be a better place if we accept this one piece of advice, "do not fight eat chips."

Is it wrong that this sounds so terrible I kind of want to watch it just to hate on it?

The end of the Matrix was such a disappointment. The one I expected would have been so much better.

Roger Ebert gave this a much better review than I would have. What kind of movie called its self "Tentacles" but shows you less than a minute segment of something that actually has tentacles? I haz a disappoint. :cthulhu:

I was thinking of watching Music until I saw an IMDB rating of 3.1 (!) and review after review of how atrocious it is. For example

I'm heartbroken, angry, and so, so disgusted. Sia was my hero for so long. As a neurodivergent person watching this, I felt sick to my stomach to the point I had to turn it off. Is this really how she sees me? How she sees people like me? I'm so disappointed someone I used to look up to so much turned out to be a wretch of a person. Absolutely evil.

I think if you have at least one other person with you to laugh and roll eyes with it probably isn’t as bad. Also try to watch it on a big screen.

Another “older” one I saw recently is The Man from Earth. I saw a post on Reddit and everyone was raving about how mind blowing it was, and it had really good reviews. John Billingsley is also in it (also a part of the 2012 cast).

It’s not terrible as an ensemble movie, but I kept waiting to be mind blown. Maybe if you are questioning your religious beliefs that you grew up with? Idk

I still want to scrub my viewing of The Titan from my brain. Basically a rip-off of Frederick Pohl's Man Plus, but without the interesting stuff. And acting of a low caliber nature. And plot points that had me grabbing my head in astonishment.

Yeh.

Still a better ending than the Matrix.

I think part of my disappointment with The Matrix was that I couldn't watch it the day it came out because I was on a road trip, but every little rural radio station I drove past was raving about how mindblowing it was, so I expected more than Hollywood was prepared to deliver.

Well I was going to say The Man With The Iron Fists 2 was the most recent worst movie I watched but then I sat down and watched Bill And Ted Face The Music. Please hollywood, stop with 30+ years later sequels.

I discovered there were two previous versions of the Doctor Strange movie. The 1978 version was truly horrible. Cheap sets, crappy special effects, idiotic plot, and Steven Strange with a 'fro and a porn 'stache:
