So while Trump supporters have gathered outside ballot counting offices in Detroit and Philadelphia to demand those states "stop the count", other Trump supporters have gathered outside the Maricopa County ballot counting facility in Arizona, where Biden is currently ahead, to demand....that, I don't know, Arizona keeps counting, I guess? Which is...what they're already doing, inside that building, but...protest, though! Or something.

I forgot what state it was but don was behind while the count was going on. His cult was outside telling them to stop the count. They do not think, just repeat whatever dumb stuff he says.

As Bronxelf pointed out on a recent Facebook post, there is major hinky interference with the Florida vote. Tens of thousands of mail-in votes are unaccounted for, and even if they're found, it's too late; Florida law will not allow them to be counted if they are received after the election. So still reason for shame where Florida is concerned, but not the reason you started with.

The local elections - where people chose a cowardly rich white millenial asshole to continue to rep... embaress us with his stupidity is still in office over an actual Navy Veteran. One that supposedly had some republicans in the area supporting him. Again, its possible these votes were tampered with too, but I'd lay serious odds that the tampering was in Maimi-Dade and Broward Counties. And I'd hoped to help turn our state legislature more blueish and we failed there too. At least Florida has a constitutional amendment making gerrymandering illegal, and the courts here have made them go back and draw again, but unless they actually draw our area better, I'll never have a congrsscritter that's decent until we move again, and I don't want to [unless its to my mom's and that part of georgia is even more red than east L.A. One group I was in made someone a 'senior moderator' just to get her to shut up and she went on to do nothing except swing her title around when it helped her. Fast forward a few years and she broke a list rule. I went back and forth a few times with her about it and she insisted on breaking it. I finally deleted the list. Was also thinking about who we run as Democrats. Perhaps we should consider a southerner as we did with Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. Jimmy Carter took Texas, of all places.

Tribalism exists so why not take advantage of it?

As of this morning Pres. Trump was leading but under 50% in Georgia, and it is looking more likely that there may be a runoff for the presidential race in Georgia. We are going to need to put a statue of Stacey Abrams at Stone Mountain. Also, this just came across my feed:


Georgia is about to get even more inundated with money and political ads. There may be a runoff for both Senate seats and the presidency. I was hoping to be able to go back to watching the news again.... I may need to make a run to the liquor store.

I kinda agree with this, but...

According to a piece I read several years ago, Jimmy Carter believes abortion is wrong except under certain conditions (rape, incest, danger to mother's life), and yet allowed policy to conflict with his own religious or moral ones. So in a lot of ways he was fairly progressive, especially for a Georgian Dem in the 70s.

Castro and O'Rourke were successful at running for and holding lesser positions in locations- Castro as Mayor of San Antonio, O'Rourke as Congressperson for Texas' 16th - that have largely liberal constituencies.

Carter as governor of Georgia...well, I just looked up a few things about his early political career. He won a seat on the Georgia State Senate in 1962 and was reelected in '64, but his first run for the governorship failed. Then he became a born-again Baptist. One might suspect this aided him in his second run at governor in a bible belt state. Also, the platform he ran on was not something you might call progressive (Britannica states he "tacitly adhered to a segregationist approach"). However, once in office his policies lead to him appearing on the cover of Time magazine, and talk of his being part of "the new South." He didn't run for a second term, instead announcing his candidacy for President.

So I wonder how effective a model Carter is for today's Democrats.

Whatever they say about Carter's early policies, the man refused to join his local White Citizen's Council in the wake of Brown v Board of Education. That brought the real possibility that his store (a seed store was part of the farm operation, a position that brought status in farming communities) would mysteriously burn down. Possibly with him in it. It was not an uncommon occurrence at the time. It is also worth noting that the liberal Baptist churches were important at the time in organizing Civil Rights work.
