Trump Tariffs may be dead in the water

So a lower court that Trump's use of Emergency Powers to enact tariffs exceeds his authority

Trump’s trade policy has encountered stiff resistance as lower courts push back against the administration’s sweeping claims of executive authority. On May 28, the U.S. Court of International Trade (CIT) ruled unanimously against Trump’s use of the IEEPA for tariffs, calling the administration’s arguments unconvincing. The decision is now under appeal.

In a separate May 29 ruling, D.C. District Judge Rudolph Contreras found that the IEEPA does not enable the president to impose tariffs at all and ordered an immediate reversal of certain duties—though that order is currently stayed pending appeal.
Things still have to play out all the way in the courts, but there's a pretty good chance his tariffs are dead

I'd say most of the damage to our relationships with allies is already done.
My sense is that for many other countries, the first term raised deep suspicions, but was at least partially forgiven when it looked like we had sobered up. (I admit, it took a whole lot of forgiveness and no doubt came with a healthy dose of skepticism.)

This time, "You knew exactly what you were voting for, and now it is happening. Why would we trust you again? 'bye Felicia."

This friendly Canadian is definitely done with the USA:

If you look at his channel, there are only videos like that one.

Snark, much?

The sub was created July 1 of this year.
We are awash with this content and many of them are foreign bad actors. Just so tired trying to figure out which is which. One of the biggest channels of my city was outed as being located in Russia. And it's still the biggest channel.

The USA is extremely important as an ally and trading partner. Political memory rarely extends beyond the next election, whether on this or the other side of the pond. So in the end we'll be good.
I'm more concerned about the democratic future of the USA. The next mid-term elections will be pretty crucial. The Dems need majorities in the houses to break Trumps powers.

All indications are that key red states are already putting in the fix for the 2026 midterms. Gerrymandering, voter suppression, voting machine tampering. When we're at the point that we can't assume that we will have free and fair elections, that's a sign that democracy is cracking right now.

There is no chance the Republicans ever lose power again. They Christofscists behind them have been bhilding to this momemt for decades. They are going to pull every bull shit thing they can out to disqualify and discourage voters.

November 2024 was the make-or-break election, and I'm not even sure about that one. (I haven't heard any compelling evidence that 2024 was compromised, but part of me still yearns for some sign that the general American public isn't as gullible, misogynist and racist as Trump's win implies.)

I'll be very shocked and very happy if there is a blue wave in 2026. But I'm not expecting anything to put it mildly.... doesn't matter what they screw up.

Have they finally located a spine? Hmm...

It was the day before Halloween, but US president Donald Trump’s worst nightmare may have just taken place in the Senate, as members voted to ‘strip’ him of his ability to slap tariffs on global trade.

The joint resolution, put forward by Oregon senator Ron Wyden, looks to end “the national emergency declared to impose global tariffs” back in April in a move he branded ‘Liberation Day’.

The Senate ended up voting 51-47 to back the resolution, with Republicans Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell, Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins siding with the Democrats to pass it.
I doubt the House will even meet up to discuss, let alone pass this.
