Trump to Sign Executive Order Targeting Social Media Firms

The Washington Post said:
The wide-ranging order comes two days after Twitter took the rare step of labeling one of the president’s tweets and linking viewers to news articles that fact-checked his claims. The move infuriated Trump and his supporters, who quickly blasted Twitter and its peers in Silicon Valley for engaging in censorship and exhibiting political bias, charges the companies have long denied.
Trump’s directive chiefly seeks to embolden federal regulators to rethink a portion of law known as Section 230, which spares tech companies from being held liable for the comments, videos and other content posted by their users, according to the two people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe a document that could still evolve and has not been officially signed by the president.

My guess is that they're going to try some kind of "both sides" nonsense where they are allowed to lie in the interest of promoting a political view - or that the government can post whatever it wants. Remember, war is peace, freedom is slavery and ignorance is strength. Those are the new mantra, right?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Facebook fact-checking a lot of memes that get posted?
Just memes. They don't fact-check posts or political ads.

From what I posted:
Facebook’s stance on Trump’s tweets echoes its policies surrounding political ads, which came under fire earlier this year because Facebook allows politicians to lie in them without being fact checked.
From Kamilah's link:
If a claim is made directly by a politician on their Page, in an ad or on their website, it is considered direct speech and ineligible for our third party fact checking program

Facebook has brought in conservative-leaning "fact checkers" with no real experience in that area to balance the actual fact checkers.

"Fact checking big brother's ministry of truth during the war on the virus from east Asia is double plus ungood."

Fuck Trump, this morning he retweeted a video with a guy saying, multiple times, "the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat" to a cheering crowd.

Fact checking government officials should be mandatory in the news and in social media. And social media policies should only be exempt for "official statements" not offhand opinions and random comments made by prominent political figures.

That is a tricky one. Before you know they will mingle with opinions and then it is the start of state censorship.
(Social) Media should be held responsible for spreading deliberate false news even from third parties.
With healthy fines. Not by government but by the courts.
