Both social media and traditional media dropped the ball on Trump years ago. He has been allowed to post libelous material and incitement to violence unchecked until the aftermath of the election. He has been specifically exempted from the terms & conditions of major sites in a way that he has exploited. The traditional media had a years-long "debate" over using the word "lies" and applying basic fact-checking and follow-up questions in reports about Trump that started when he was a celebrity joke before he was thought of as a real candidate. Some basic journalism would have blunted Trump early on.
So yes, profit blinded a number of companies to Trump, and he used it. He has consistently been held to a lower standard, and used that until he threatened the profits of platforms that finally saw their fear of losing money outweigh their fear of losing Trump's followers.
The media firms learned nothing, and will only change if they are held accountable either legally or financially for their actions or inaction.
