The utopian paradox even extends into how Second Life was developed by employees at Linden Lab. Under the idealistic direction of Rosedale and his CTO, Cory Ondrejka, the start-up operated with a no-managers, “choose your own work” policy, cheekily dubbed the “Tao of Linden.” Their creativity thus unleashed, Linden developers wound up adding a farrago of persnickety features to the product with little unifying direction that might create a seamless, user-friendly experience.
This explains A LOT, lol.

I'm not for certain if he was fired, or just let go because LL didn't think they needed an embedded journalist in a Tom Wolfe suit working directly for them because they decided to leave the in-world reporting to the Residents. Either way, I think I have pretty much the same opinion of him as Free does, and most everyone else does.

meaning lots of eye-rolling.

I googled him and found a few things, but nothing around him being fired or why... I wonder if that story was taken down?
I wasn't being serious with the "fired" part. Hamlet parted ways with LL in 2006 because of disagreements with LL. There used to be a few articles about it but they've likely either been buried by time or the blogs/websites no longer exist. (Things really do not last forever on the internet.)

Guess I forgot because I actually started using Second Life as a Linden Lab contractor in 2003.

It was neither since he was a contractor and not actually employed by LL.

My opinion of him isn't nearly as high as everyone else's.
